@BigWheel Any updates? I will renew my offer to help test and provide additional logs if needed. I understand the Discover launch has priority, but I want to make sure this issue doesn’t get lost. Thanks!
Sorry I don’t have any updates but will poke the bug report. Have you tried 9.1 yet? There was a pretty significant update to the android player.
I will give 9.1 a try tonight and see if the issue is still there.
@BigWheel hi. I updated to 9.1 this time, and the same crash occurs on my Android smartphone. When we tested the occurrence conditions, if you set the audio channel dubbed in the user’s country language and use subtitles, a crash occurs during playback after setting the pre-roll. Turning off subtitles doesn’t crash. I want a quick bug fix.
@BigWheel I was able to test with the current 9.1.0 update (https://downloads.plex.tv/Kepler/kepler-armv7a-amazon-fireExo-9.1.0.32210-794776f6.apk) for my Fire Stick 4K. Everything worked as expected on my test setup. Tested with no trailers and one trailer. Both played the pre-roll intro and then the movie with no issues. I tested with several movies including those I knew had the issue previously. All worked correctly. Then I tested on a different TV/Fire Stick 4K and everything performed correctly on that setup too. I have one more Fire Stick 4K to test as well as an Nvidia Shield. Hope to be able to test those tonight or tomorrow, but at this point the new 9.1.0 looks very promising to me. @jay.woods I’d be interested to hear if this works for you as well.
Also, I really like the new Discover, Guide and Search results in 9.1.0. Now if I can just get Plex to launch automatically when I turn on the TV… ![]()
so the different audio track alone it does not crash? What sort subtitles are they and are they embedded or external?
@BigWheel Now, I have additionally tested several contents with an Android smartphone. (Galaxy s20 ultra) Crash occurs even with content with only 1-channel audio inserted. Information of test content = <codec h264, 265>, <resolution 1080p>, <file extension mkv, mp4> Use built-in subtitles or SRT external subtitles. I randomly tested 10 pieces of content, and almost all of them crash. However, the crash does not occur when the subtitles of the contents are turned off. I doubt there is a conflict between subtitles and Plex.
can you please provide the plex media info xml for one of those files and the android logs after the crash trying to play that file.
@BigWheel yes. First of all, it is debugging data of Android smartphone.

@BigWheel 9.1.0 works fine with the intros on my 3rd Fire Stick 4K as well. Interestingly, I have a 4th Fire Stick 4k that I did not roll back to 8.27, and left it on auto update (isn’t used as much for Plex). I tested that one as well. It is running 8.31.2.31546 (62043fa3), and the intros worked correctly with that version too. Curious why that one has not auto updated to 9.1.0 though, since it has been 4 days since 9.1.0 was released.
Also, I tested my Nvidia Shield. It has auto updated to 9.1.0 and everything is working correctly for the intros. Hopefully 8.31.2.31546 and/or 9.1.0 resolves the intro issue for others too.
As far as I know Amazon has not approved it yet. If they recently did it might be a staged rollout which means only X% of devices in the world will get auto updated each day.
For me still crashing for certain movies on Android phone app and Android TV app. Even with version 9.2.0.
@BigWheel, is there any chance this can get triaged and into a server update in the near future? I know Prerolls aren’t everyone’s top priority but this has been going on for months. None of my FireTV or Android users can play movies until I turn off all prerolls. I can confirm on the latest 9.1.0 version does not fix the problem. Any assistance here would be greatly appreciated!
I already has been triaged and marked as a top prio, they just have not been able to find the cause yet as far as I can see in bug report.
I’ve joined the beta program for the Plex app on Android and installed the last version (9.4.0) on all of my devices: I can confirm the issue is resolved for me now.
I can also confirm on a FireTV Stick and FireTV Cube on 9.4, the problem appears to be gone. Previously, it was crashing every time (or nearly every time) and I played 10 prerolls in a row without issues on the new version.
I have an Amazon fire stick 4k And may be unrelated but when I play a film the pre roll pauses so I have to press play and then when the pre roll finishes the film Will pause before playing so I have to press play again. I just wondered if anyone had any ideas why. The pre rolls work fine on pc and phone. TIA as always.
Just rolling in to check for an update, everyone else still having this issue? (beta software aside)
