Invalid File Format when installing Plex Server in Synology v7 NAS

Server Version#:If it would install I could tell you
Player Version#:

Probably done this 6-8 times. Plex was running then removed. I’ll post that later is it’s still a problem.
Iron:
Synology DS720+ NAS. Firmware is DSM 4.0-41882
Intel Celeron J4128 6Gb RAM
Proceedure:
I go to Plex Download area. I choose V7 OS, I’ve tried both 32 mhz & 64 mhz Intel files, I download my selection. Next I mosey on over to the Synology Package Center and choose “Manual Instal” I browse for the file I downloaded from Plex. “something.spk”. I think I the button I click is NEXT any way it barfs “Invalid File Format”. contact the author.

Curious. Would this relate to Plex being unable to browse more than two levels down my file tree?. I’ve be banging my head on that on for about two weeks.

Not being able to browse deeper (in PMS) is a permissions problem.

Linux is very strict. Just because you see it, doesn’t mean user ‘plex’ can.

You need to go into File Station and adjust (fix) the permissions.

The first level is the shared folder itself (control panel - Shared Folders - Edit the specific share). I assume you’ve got this part ok.

The second part is done in File Station

In the left pane, right click on the shared folder name → Properties → Permissions.

Now make them something like this:

  1. You , as the owner have full Read, Write, Execute
  2. Everyone else has Read & Execute.

“Execute” is needed to get into a directory. It doesn’t hurt if a media file has “execute” since it’s data.

Be certain to click “Apply to this folder, sub-folders, and files” then click “OK” to make it happen.

Thanks for taking the time to assemble that response. I’d been changing permissions for days but not in those places. (File Station) It’s the case where I’ve made so many I’m not certain what I’ve changed. Nonetheless.

File Station.
My top Folder/Share is “Luke Share”.

It’s been fun trying to use the forum when it “reply” button blows up…

That with the original problem where I can’t get the Plex server in the NAS to fire again. Which means I can’t apply/test these fixes. That… well that is a bunch O’Blarney.

This is from File Station.

None of this matters until I can reinstall and run Plex.
That said it’s great to have a head start on the endgame :)~ (Old School emoji for the youngsters)

If you search the forum for DSM 7 forum preview issues thread, you’ll find the packages I hand created for DSM 7.0-41882 (which breaks everything established to date).
