iOS deleted all my downloads. again. (or did it?)

Server Version#: 4.128.1
Player Version#: ios 8.3.4

Was out and about yesterday and went to listen to some albums I know I had marked as downloaded. In the ios app I went to Downloads and it told me that I had nothing downloaded. Frustrated… I listened to something on Pandora.

Writing this post up just now and checking version numbers and what not I just went in to the Downloads section again to see the same message about nothing being downloaded. After typing a few sentences here and picking up my phone again to look all the stuff is back. What?!

Okay, so there’s some kind of bug that doesn’t immediately show the downloads?

I then clicked into an artist marked as “Complete”. I saw a few things: The artists image, and a play button - and a spinner icon doing a bunch of spinning.

10 to 15 seconds later I see all the albums populate.

This makes me strongly suspect that a bunch of API requests were being made during that time period. But… why? Why block showing media while talking to the network?

Shouldn’t the foremost concern of the “Downloads” section be that it works offline?
Like shouldn’t it load all the stuff on the device and only then do spinny things to check for server stuff? (presumably updated media etc).

It seems that the downloads page doesn’t properly respect the fact that the intent should be to use media directly from the device. Everything else is secondary.

re: “Again” in the subject line. My spidey sense suggests to my brain that some version of this happened some months ago. I use Downloads sporadically.

You may have better luck with Plexamp.
