IOS devices (iPad Air 2) with LATEST updates show Media Server being offline consistently

Server Version#: 1.25.1.5286 (on FreeNAS)
Player Version#: 7.26 (iPhone) 7.25 (iPad)

For the past few years, I am unable to play any local medias (hosted on my Plex Media Server) on any IOS platform (i.e. all iPhone & iPads devices with latest update). When using the app, It recognizes the Media server but it always show “Offline” regardless of any settings (including Allow “Insecure” connection). Both server and devices log into the same account correctly. and I have the latest PMS version with multiple upgrades over time but still no difference.

I thought this may be related to the restriction that Plex had with licensing (where previously I had only device Activation purchase) so recently I bought a Lifetime license and unfortunately this does NOT make any impact and the results are exactly the same. Btw I can play all medias using my desktop browser fine, just not on the platform that I need (i.e. IOS mobiles).

I am at a loss and it is unclear how to get this resolved. Does anyone run into this or have any insights on how I can resolve this issue? Any help or advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Same here +1

Server Version: Version 1.25.1.5286
Player Version: 6.72 (iPhone 4 A1387 iOS 9.3.6 (13G37))

On the server i see that the device authenticated successfully

reinstallation on iPhone is done
resetup of plex server is done

did not help

please advise or return the money for the iOS client

thanks

@ant0nwax

I’m checking with the iOS team now to confirm minimums

I don’t think you can install 7.26 on iOS 9 / iPhone 4 – too old.
(which is why you’re having problems)

Which version of PMS are you using?

I will advise as soon as I get the definitive answer.

@ant0nwax

is this a fresh installation of the Plex app on your phone or something you’ve been maintaining ?

From the App Store

Compatibility
iPhone: Requires iOS 12.4 or later.
iPad: Requires iPadOS 12.4 or later.
iPod touch: Requires iOS 12.4 or later.
Mac: Requires macOS 11.0 or later and a Mac with Apple M1 chip.
Apple TV: Requires tvOS 13.0 or later.

Interesting questions ChuckPa, thanks for your reply.

about which PMS version, check my last post
all your other questions also have been answered in advance in my first post

this construction still worked in Summer

things updated

certificate on PMS
PMS itself

i bet its because the new R3 TLS certificate

workaround for people reading:

install an older version of PMS and good luck in generating an older certificate.

most likely by setting the time back and detaching from plex.tv if possible you could make it work. but the overhead of working hours is too much.

the iphone 4s was 20 EUR and plex app was 5 EUR, it was a cool solution for 2 years.

thank you PLEX community

PS, will it work on IPAD mini 2?

Actually for me, all my iPhone & iPad Air are of the latest IOS version 15.2…However on the PMS server side (under Authorized devices), it shows 7.26 (iPhone) 7.25 (iPad) . I thought this might be internal App version for respective devices.

Since my IOS hardware is with latest update, is there anything I can do to resolve this issue?

I read your post very carefully and quoted it here again.

As of Sept 30th, 2021, there are no viable workarounds for MANY No-Longer-Supported devices around the world.

This is when the resident device certificates expired.

Given you have an older iPhone 4. I suspect you have the exact same problem.
I’ve asked the team about your specific case.

I have also asked the team why it’s possible to download 7.26 on a device which it will never support (ios 12 minimum)

I bet PLEX must convince Apple to remove the 6.72 from the AppStore… that’s something which was forgotten until now, yesterday i could download this oldschool version :slight_smile:

I have addressed that with the Apple team this morning.

Given this is now Christmas week, I don’t expect much to happen until January 3rd

Hi - Any Plex support available? Please help troubleshooting this issue.

@plex89145

Looking at your account, server ******GSD has not been seen in over 24 hours by Plex.tv

Would it be possible to see the DEBUG server logs to confirm it’s actually able to communicate with Plex.tv ?

Thanks for the update. I have shutdown the PMS since I can never get it working on mobile platform (except years ago). I’ll restart the server and look into sending the debug log shortly…

Attached is the DEBUG sever logs from PMS. This is my 1st time generating these logs, let me know if I need to adjust any settings. Thx.

@plex89145

Would you mind doing that again please but leaving all 5 ‘Plex Media Server.x.log’ files ?

If you look in my screenshot, all the other logs have them. PMS should also.
I need to look at the older logs

Upload the PMS server debug logs again. The zip file is autogenerated from the system under ‘Manage->Troubleshooting’ section. It includes all the files packaged by the PMS. Let me know if you want to look at something else… There is only one video currently under the Library after I rebuilt everything with new installation of PMS. This still didn’t help since IOS app show the Library is immediately Offline again.

3 iPhone 4s phones on JBL OnBeat speaker docks. They all seemed to work just fine last week. Did something happen to magically break these phones, Plex Client 6.72, from accessing content from my server any longer. It appears the app loads and authenticates but the server appears unavailable. Server 1.25.2.5319 Mac. I could have swore I was playing content, music only, from these phones accessing 5319 server. This is a bug bummer is planned obsolescence is the reason. These phones, despite being old, still supported sweet fades and volume leveling just fine and sound great on these JBLs.

As a matter of fact, this picture was taken on the 27th.
