iOS Plex app won't give transcode options above 480p

Sorry, no updates to share.

Exact same bug just appeared for me in the last month. Confirmed no ATT “data saver” or lack of direct access to server. Just the UI big as described. Any update?

@anon18523487 any updates on this bug? It’s been nearly seven months and the iOS app is still unusable, unless you really happen to like that old-timey 480p quality.

@anon18523487 any updates? Sorry for asking so frequently but this really impacts the usability of the app on the go, which is most of my Plex usage. I’d appreciate it if you can share what stage this bug report is in.

Sorry, still no updates. There is some movement so maybe some news in the near future.

Please post here when fixed. Can you elaborate on the technical issues here?

Hoping for an update on this matter soon - it’s been a while and this bug is a pain. I’m affected on both iPhone and iPad. I’m temporarily “solving” it by using the web player or simply using a hotspot from my iPad to my iPhone er vice versa. Not ideal, but better than 4k when I don’t have the connection to direct play.

Please keep us posted.

Commenting so that the forum software doesn’t archive this topic.

I’m having this exact issue as well. iOS 16.4.1(a), Plex 8.19.1. Playing ALL content over cellular data only shows direct play, OR up to 480p 2mbps transcoding option. Switching to wifi brings back the full transcoding option list. Opening a web browser and going to Plex that way works fine over cellular data, the full list appears as expected. It is 100% isolated to the iOS app. I can also confirm that setting a limit on remote streaming quality forces the iOS app to transcode to the selected option without it being listed in the playback settings. Please get this fixed… it has been an issue for a ridiculous amount of time.

Seems like the previous team member deleted his account, as the tagged posts have all changed to an anonymous profile. Can we get a confirmation that this bug report is being worked on and not forgotten?

@BigWheel sorry for tagging you directly but the previous Plex employee (I think?) who was tracking this thread deleted their account (are they no longer working with Plex anymore?) Can we get some reassurance that this is being looked into? It’s been an issue for over a year at this point. It makes the Plex app useless for people wishing to stream via cellular on iOS.

It is still being looked into. looking at bug report there seems to be a theory on what is happening but it is not confirmed yet. Sorry I can’t provide an ETA
