Remote streams on iOS limited to 480p. Three years, and still no fix in sight. What a broken mess

Can this get fixed already? I mean, Jesus Christ. Do devs not even use their own products?

I’ts been 3 years, and we’ve been complaining about it for just as long. Slap in the face to paying customers.

Yes, the frustration is high with this one. I get why it’s not prioritised, we’re like 5 people or so who’s reported this and with the Plex layoffs and rehiring the teams are probably restructured inheriting old code bases and whatnot.
But it would be nice to at least get some acknowledgment by the devs we’re not just shouting into the void.

Have you tried the Preview app? Does it happen there?

Even if I wanted to download a completely separate app, which I don’t know why I would, I’m not even able to, as it’s locked behind a closed beta or whatever.

How about focus goes into fixing the actual bug in the actual app in question?

On the preview app, the same bound limit occurs but the limit is at 720p (High) instead of 480p on the normal iOS Plex app. This is a well known issue that got many complaints and requests from the community.

I’ve got exactly the same problem. I’am on android and not every video is capped. File is 1080p hevc codec it only converts to 480p. If I set to auto convert it errors and abort.

Funnily enough plex experience beta gives me 20 mbps / 1080p as the highest transcode quality on both wifi and cellular when playing a 4k HDR hevc 40 mbps file.

I’ve had this 480p 4 mbps bug forever. Changing iPhone hasn’t solved anything, it’s been following me for the last 3 iPhones I’ve had. No one else using my server on iPhone has this bug.
As noted earlier using Tailscale (wireguard) vpn and the plex server as an exit node side steps the bug for some reason. Guess it’s fooling plex its on lan.

Edit: Playing an 1080p on the preview app gives me 720p 4 mbps, same as thibaudbrg1 wrote. Also both on wifi and cellular. So I doubt it’s a bug, just low settings on the preview app for some reason.

As far as I am aware devs are not going to fix in the current app and are just going to make sure it is working in the new one when it is released.
