ios Streaming works on LAN but not good on ios on WAN after update

Dear All,

I have problems since an OS and plex update to stream outside my home network to my ipad.
I stream good to a computer device outside of my network on plexWeb.
My OS is synology DMS6 with a CPU benchmark over 4000. The CPU resources are never high even when using Plex “Make my CPU hurt”.

My Plex Server is on Version 1.12.1.4885
I only (99%) have 720p and try not to transcode always.
The ipad is an iPad air one with Plex App on ios 10.3.3

My internet is fast : 300Down and 30 up.
The streaming on the same network is perfect. Outside not.
I think it is either a network issue or a transcoding issue.

0- OS/Plex update : I backed up my Library, then deleted Plex. Recopied my library and reinstalled Plex. Then run a refresh.
1- Network issue : in terms of hadware, I did not change anything. In terms of software, I did the OS update (major update).
2- Transcoding issue : I am mainly not transcoding, or I do not wish to transcode. Direct Play is my priority. (but remember my CPU benchmark is enough)
3- Could it be a Plex bug since the update?

In a nutshell, it works on my LAN but not on WAN.
Please find the logs below :
1- One log with Android where you can watch the movie but it stuters every minute or so…
2- One log with the ipad where i can not watch anything. It stays on the buffering loop.

Hope you can help.

Dear Andy,
Thanks for your reply. Here is some more clarifications :
My internet connection is NOT poor. I have 300Mdown and 30up. It also always worked in the past…
Playing subtitles always worked also…

So are you saying that the logs are showing poor connection but indeed it is a good one. That could me that there is a set up issue in the network. Is there any Plex test to check that, that I can run directly from the Plex server? (plugin maybe)

By the way, when you meant poor internet connection… i presume you meant on the server side… not client? anyway… both should be enought to stream that content.
NB:(And why is my badge not showing PlexPass lifetime member)

Hi Andy,

I installed Plex on my mac which is on the same LAN, and then streaming to outside is working perfectly. We can conclude from this that the problem is only on my server (hardware or software).
There is a real low chance that it is hardware, so I will concentrate my solutions on the software.

I will try to reinstall from fresh Plex with only 1 movie and test it like that. If it is working, then we can say it is a plex settings that is messed up…

However, I also would like to “backup” the status of the movies/series of “already watched”. Only that. So my understanding is that I have to back up the folder Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases/
I dont really understand how to do the back up of that? In the guide here it is writen that I should use “echo… blabla” but where/how do I do that?
Because I am a PlexPass member, I only need to back up the original com.plexapp.plugins.library.db to it’s new location, correct? Or will it back up “uneccessary” data? (remember I only need the status of watched movies)

Thanks

Hi,
The database is on a synology but I am a mac user… so how would I do that?
