Using iPadOS 16.3.1 (latest), app never prompts for local network access and always goes through Relay on local network. If I use iPhone with same Player version but IOS 16.1.2 (latest) it works fine.
So problem appears to be a combination of 8.16 player and iPadOS 16.3.1 specifically.
If I open the Plex web client via multiple browsers, media direct plays. Infuse also direct plays. I’ve tried multiple removals and re-installs and same result.
That prompt for local network access on the iPad had always been buggy. I guess I’ve always had this issue but never paid attention until today. Did some testing.
iPad 16.3.1 and Plex 8.16.

Tried going to Plex advance setting to manually add the PMS IP address. Made difference.

The issue is definitely Plex running on iPad.
This issue still has not been fixed. Latest client will not prompt to allow local network access and therefore will always use relay.
