iPhone cell offline - using USB storage

Server Version#: latest
Player Version#: ios (latest)

Wondering if I can plug in a USB adapter into iphone with attached SSD drive and run it from plex when cellular service goes offline while driving to remove location.

Trying Windows app, I see I can add USB as another library, but there is no way to ‘download’ to it once added. Not sure what happens when I move USB to car from Desktop, but there must be a better way to manage all this through downloads etc.

Thank you!

What are you trying to do?

Thank you for your reply. Typically when I want to use hear my lossless music stored on home NAS the most, is when I’m out of cellphone range. I understand I can download offline music to the phone, but the storage space is limited. So thinking of hooking up USB adapter to iphone and attaching to it, a large SSD. I suppose I could just hook phone up to Windows PLEX app, connect USB adapter to phone and tag the SSD as another PLEX library but am concerned that PLEX will show duplicate songs/albums etc. vs the ‘download’ which keeps them separate.

Do yourself a favor, buy a cheap android phone, or fire tablet, and just download the music to an SD card. Will be far easier than trying to hack something together.

That sounds reasonable unless you’re working with terabytes worth of FLAC files and you’ll quickly find out that the write/read speeds are abhorrently slow, hence using an SSD instead.

I discovered that the common OTG adapters for iphone (08 2022) that have USB connection, are not recognized by Win 11. The only thing that does work is the charging part. So PLEX is out so far as using the SSD for downloaded/offline PLEX storage.

Evermusic app does recognize devices attached the the OTG USB port and is CarPlay compatible so that seems a viable workaround.

Thanks!
