Is a powered on computer necessary to run plex server?

I have a teramaster NAS that supports Plex. Is running a powered on computer necessary, with plex server?

If you run PMS on the NAS, there’s no need for another computer to run. If your PMS is on a separate machine, using the NAS as storage, both devices must be up and running.

Thank you very much for your rapid response! Great!

I noticed in settings it says that my teramaster is the server; does that mean that the PMS is on the teramaster NAS?

The settings don’t have a reference mentioning on what platform the server is running.
Do you have an icon of Plex Media Server in your computer’s system tray?

PMS in Windows system tray

If so, that means your server is running on that computer.
If it’s just pointing to a share/folder on the NAS, the computer will still do the heavy lifting.

Yes, your teramaster NAS is also the server. There are several NAS units that can also double as a PMS but it’s worth mentioning that they are not very powerful. You’ll be extremely limited in what, if anything, you can transcode so you’ll want to make sure the majority of your media can direct play/stream on your clients.

No icon. Though, when I turn off the computer, I cannot add songs to my playlists via IOS plex app.
