Is Plex down again?

As there is not much that we can do now except to see that it does not work, I will take the opportunity to snuggle up with my wife.

mine just started working

I think we could blame COVID-19

yes it’s working for me too but it’s very slow to login.

How do I make i t possible to login in my local network without authentification in a range from 192.168.178.1 till 192.168.178.255?

I don’t think it will work if you haven’t create any managed users earlier. If you have managed user you can login and use plex locally in same subnet.

Going back to Emby sounds really good right now. At least there I have local users.

I can confirm Live TV & DVR is working fine locally too.

You can turn off auth entirely ( :crossed_fingers: )

Preferences.xml gets:

secureConnections="0" allowedNetworks="192.168.0.0/24,10.0.0.0/24"

  1. stop Plex
  2. make a copy of Preferernces.xml (in case you make a typo – Plex will erase it if you break it too badly)
  3. Add these two options anywhere in the middle – obey spacing requirement. EDIT the subnet(s) to match your LAN config.
  4. Start Plex.

This is 100% Temporary.

… OR … you can wait while it restarts

now getting message "plex is down for maintenance…don’t worry it will be back soon

You mean me?

@XShocker22

My comment is for everyone. It’s a temporary way to turn off All HTTPS and allow everything on your LAN to connect without the need to sign into plex.tv

It is NOT safe to use in the longer term…

you want HTTPS when going remote.

I replied to @Anuruddha.

But while we are at it. Can’t I just have local access without Plex’ server authentification - as an optional thing?

No. we can’t have fully local authentication.

They designed Plex to be cloud based

  1. The automatic brokered Remote Acccess requires auth/ tracking by account name.
  2. Controlling Remote Access to your server requires auth (but local users could do this too)
  3. All the other services Plex provides (the TV service for one) require auth.

That said,

IFF they ripped it all apart and completely overhauled the architecture, then anything is possible but that’s probably at least a full year’s worth of work – maybe more.

Plex trying to RE-claim my server

So that there will be an option for fully local authentication.
That will not be active by default, but that will be possible.
I do not use app.plex.tv or the content that plex offers anyway. I access plex externally through my domain and not through plex.
fully local authentication This is exactly what Plex is missing

was able to re-claim my server, but all clients says OFFLINE

yes. I hope you can temporary login to Plex locally with @ChuckPa tips.

Excuse my ignorance but we just changed SSL certificate providers yesterday and now everyone is having a hard time with plex.tv - Authentication and API server?

Is there a relationship?

I think so. Plex auth servers are down.
