Is Rasplex sufficient for the following setup?

Hi.

I just bought a new Surround reciever(Yamaha RX-V681), and I am not sure what I should use as a plex client. I have been thinking about running it on a Raspberry Pi, but not certain that it can handle it.

My setup is like this:

All my units are connected locally.
Plex Server is running on a linux Server
Samsung smart TV
Yamaha RX-V681 as amplifier

At the moment I have been using the Samsung Smart Tv’s app for Plex, then the tv send the signal it received from the server down to my old amplifier and back up again. The problem with that is that the server transcodes the content so it fits the TV, and not what my amplifier can do.
So I need something that can process DTS HD or higher and 4K which then sends it to the amplifier and up to the TV.

If I’m wrong about my assumptions here on how the transcode is done please let me know

So the question, is Rasplex good enough to process the data which my amplifier can understand or should I use another plex client ?

Regards Alex

OpenPHT/Rasplex supports what you need, but the rPi 2/3 hardware doesn’t support 4k. You’ll want something like the Odroid C2 or better to run OpenPHT on. Check the OpenPHT section of this forum for more information and options.

okay will do thanks

How will I be able to control the Odroid? Can I use my Remote control for my Samsung smart TV or can I use the remote for the amplifier ? if thats even possible ?

The Odroid, like the Raspberry support HDMI-CEC, so you can use the remote control of your TV or your AVR (if it supports CEC).
This works usually, but if you need more buttons or want it to react faster, then you can also adapt a number of other remote controls, using for instance a FLIRC adapter.
