It must be a problem in your environment as I switched from an LG running WebOS about a month ago to a TCL running Plex on Google TV and have no issues (I have played 4k Dolby Vison and HDR content as well as 1080p content). Everything is configured for Direct Play at Original Quality. Further, I also run a Firestick Max which is also working fine. My Plex Server is Windows 10 based and is patch current. I should also add that my TV is hooked up to an external receiver through the optical interface also in pass-through mode and I can handle all encoding (including ac3, eac3, DTS etc.) so far without any transcoding occurring at the server.
I have exactly the same problem. Cannot play 1080p HEVC videos using my NV Shield, or any android based client. My server runs on Arch Linux and I have hardware encoding enabled. This exact same setup worked fine about 6 months ago. HEVC 720p videos also which will not play, not unless you force the player to playback at 480p. I tried doing the same “force to 480p” to 1080p videos and it will also not work.
I also have the exact same errors: ‘An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.’, and on the server logs i also get the “: ‘Failed to stream media, client probably disconnected after …” - so i am thinking this problem is related to yours.
I’ve been googling and have found no way to resolve this. Tried disabling “Use hardware acceleration when available”, and I also tried to downgrade the server. Does not resolve the problem. I’m thinking this is an issue with the android clients? The Web client works with these same videos.
Can someone help? I am getting desperate already. Most of my videos are 1080p and 720p HEVC encoded!.
I just ran into this exact same issue today. PMS logs say “Failed to stream media, client probably disconnected after 1949696 bytes: 104 - Connection reset by peer” or “32 - broken pip”.
I’m seeing this too. At least some media will not play unless I change the settings to force it to transcode on Android devices. Get the “An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again” if it tries to play direct.
Server Version#: 1.41.3.9314
Player Version#: Google Chromecast TV 10.25.0.2461 (8a225909)
Hello,
I’m having an issue with playback of certain HEVC 265 movies on the above player. I tried the movies on my LG TV Plex player and the movies play without issue. Also, some of he movies have worked flawlessly in the past when using the above player so its as if something has changed. When playing on the above player they slightly studder and just do not play smoothly. I don’t think its a problem with the file as it plays on other players smoothly. Thanks for an help.
Some of my users with Chromecast with Google TV HD are having issues playing HEVC Main 10 1080p movies. The sound plays but the movie plays at a low rframe rate (i think 10 fps?). I tested the same release on iOS, Windows, two different LG TV’s and three different Samsung TV’s and they play just fine. Even on the XBOX Plex client it plays fine. This issue is only limited to the Google TV Chromecasts.
According to my plex dashboard, the movie direct plays in aswell video and audio. Also the subs aren’t being transcoded. I already tried enabling “Disable HW Overlays” in Dev Options on the Google TV but no luck.
I have the same issue. I cannot direct play any movies on my Google TV client. This started happening out of nowhere in early February. Other clients like Plex Web still work fine.
When I attempt to play on the client, nothing happens, it’s a black screen. After a minute or so, it eventually tells me that I don’t have a fast enough connection to the server.
In the Plex server activity monitor, it appears as if the content is playing as normal. It shows up as a direct play even though nothing is happening on the client. And the play time is incrementing in the activity monitor like normal as well, as if it were playing back.
On the server side, I see this error in the logs:
Failed to stream media, client probably disconnected after 9715712 bytes: 104 - Connection reset by peer
As a workaround, if I lower the remote streaming quality on the client (to 8mbps for example), it DOES work. However, maximum quality for direct playback is impossible.
My Plex client is running on native Google TV on a JMGO projector. The server is running Linux.
Here’s what I’ve tried. None of this helped:
Disable audio passthrough on the client
Disable secure connections on the client
Ran a speed test from the client (200mbps)
Verified I’m on the latest version of Plex server, the client, and Google TV
Tried rolling back to two previous client APKs (as far back as October)
I would love someone from Plex to have a look at this. Thank you
I also tried bumping down the streaming rate on my android TV client. This trick works for HEVC MAIN 720p videos, but 1080p and above outputs the same error. What is strange is that this was working on my android TV client early 2024. I’m not sure when exactly it stopped working. Also, rolling back the version of the client also does not solve it. So it’s clearly a client and a server issue.
So update here - it seems to be hit or miss. Some videos play, and still some don’t. But now i have this new error: MediaCodecAudioRenderer error. This is so disappointing. I cannot play my videos.
I just would like a response from Plex on the issue. But no way to really get into contact with them unfortunately. Still having the same issues…and can’t figure out why. Happens not only on this TV, but other Android/Google TV boxes as well.
