Is there a way to show all available posters and pick one manually?

sometimes i get a poster i simply don’t like, or is corrupted and only shows half the image, the rest gray. is there a way to have PMS show me all the available posters and let me pick one? sometimes i also get posters in another language, which i don’t understand, ever for american films. this is rare, but it does happen.

Double-click the movie (or TV show) in the media manager, and click on the “Change Artwork” button, then select “Change Poster”

Hi prophetizer,

In the PMS on the lower right hand corner is the button “Change Artwork” (or something like that, I´m not at home right now).

Just choose your show, press this button and you are able to change poster, banner or fanart.

You can also do this in the client. Just choose the movie information (context click on the movie or TV show) and choose artwork (or pictures, or whatever it´s called :-).

Edit: Uuups, 2 late…

ahhhhh crap, thanks guys i thought that would only let me pick local art. i swear i tried that, i guess not LOL.

thanks again

I came to forum to find out info about adding custom poster art to a movie.

Did a search and found this thread.

I’m reading what was said here and I do not have a “Change Artwork” button. Nor do I see any button in lower right hand bottom corner on any screen.

I click on the movie then click pencil (edit) icon. I then have “Change Poster” or “Change Background” option. I click “Change Poster” that and it brings up a series of posters and a small screen shot from the movie.

But … how do I select a local custom image to replace the poster image and not use the ones that come up automatically?

Hey RobertaQ,

The ways they are talking about above is using the older the Mac cocoa Media manager interface. which you can still do but as the interface will go away sooner or later because the the browser based one you are looking for that button on is the future. Unfortunately they have not updated the wiki with instruction on it.

Anyway it sounds like you are not using the very lastest version of the server (which just came out a few days ago) because after you click “Change poster” now at the top above all the possible choices it gives you it should say “choose and image - drag and drop- enter url” any of which you can do.

Or you can do the tried and true been working since the beginning method of simply putting an image, named the same as the movie file, in the same folder as the movie AND making your scanners have “Local Media assets” at the top. the only other thing you might have to do after this is to click the refresh circle that is on the poster itself in media mager when you are looking all the posters in the section. I personally prefer this method because I always have easy access to the image file and can easily change

You should read the naming guide part of the wiki if you have not. though it does reference alot of the old cocoa media manager. there is still lots of good info

If you are using the latest version of Plex Media Server, then all you have to do is start the new web based Media Manager, select either Movies or TV, and then hover your mouse cursor over the offending artwork shown that you dislike. A small window will appear. Click on the icon that looks like a pencil. The is the shortcut to the Edit screen. On the lefthand side of the screen you’ll see your current artwork. Below that are two choices: Change Poster and Change Background. There will be multiple choices for artwork already there, or you can either drag and drop your own custom artwork, or paste in a URL to the artwork you prefer and Plex will download it. If you have messed up artwork from the original metadata download, you can click the circular looking arrow to the left of the artwork to refresh the metadata for that selection. If you have a lot of TV/Movies with partially downloaded or corrupt metadata, then you can refresh the metadata for your entire library from the main screen.

My real issue with the way Plex handles movie posters, is that it all too often chooses the landscape poster instead of the portrait version which Plex shows sideways since the Plex Player can only display artwork in a portrait format. We need a checkbox in PMS Setup to force Plex to only use portrait movie posters by default.

Turns out I didn’t have the latest Plex Media Server software installed. Just installed it and was able to drag and drop and it worked. The only issue I notice is not all the poster art is same size. I know it’s not a big deal, but it’s nice when they line up the same at the top. However, at this point I’m happy to be able to put some art in on those the database doesn’t have. Thanks much for all the info and tips. Much appreciated!

thanks guys i thought that would only let me pick local art.
