Is there a way to toggle new SRT function On/Off ?

Is there a way to toggle new SRT function On/Off ?

Because, I loose a lot of subtitles in my films and TV shows. Is it working with embedded SRT in MKV or just with standalone SRT files ?

80% of my files are with subtitles in different formats (SRT, PGS, ASS, VOBSUB) so I have to roll back to previous commit to make them work.

I will let Baa answer your specific question but bear in mind that the subtitle renderer is being created in stages.

It is really helpful for people to provide feedback but if you wish something more stable you may wish to stay with your current commit.

I understand that, I was just saying that an On/Off switch would make easier for people to test that function as it is painful to roll back and forward every time a subtitle doesn't work as my PlexConnect is for family use. With this switch, I'll be glad to give feedback with my 500 or more movies subtitles. In my case, it works with standalone SRT files but not with embedded SRT in MKV. I'll also have to test the SRT with UTF-8 and ISO-8859-1 encoding.

I don't really understand that changelog (yet).

What is the actual change? Because both embedded as external (srt) works for me now, what does this change add?

i gotta say.. am also confused :P SRT worked for me before what has changed?

Before...

- PMS/transcoder did burn the subtitles into the video stream -> needed a lot of horsepower, not available on some PMS hosts (eg. NAS).

- m4v played natively (direct play) on aTV did not work with external subtitles -> you needed to "force transcode".

Now external SRT subtitle files are overlayed by aTV to the video - you don't need a full transcode any more, a container swap (direct stream) might be enough.

Does the new feature means anything for RTL to work perfectly? Or it is now possible to fix on the PlexConnect client?

Thank you Baa, that made things clearer.

I don't really mind the horsepower, but less cpu power needed is always good offcourse, maybe I can decrease my CPU's assigned to my Plex VM :)

Using mp4 with external subtitles is very nice, had to do some re-encoding with some of these.

But I understand there are still bugs? Will have to try this at home, I reckon :)

No, there are no bugs... it's just "not perfectly finished" yet.
