Problem with subtitles encoding error ?

Hi guys

I read the oder post about subtitles, even the manual. But i have some problems and need help

The subtitles in Plexconnect stop to work so i update the plexconnect to version 0.3.1+

I try different set on appleTV config but not result.

All my videos are M4v all with external SRT files

But since yesterday the subtitles stop to show on the apple TV

The name convention is

Movifile.m4v

Movifile.srt

I try

Moviefile.m4v

Movifile.es.srt

Force deep scan restart the mac and plex, restart the apple TV, nothing no subtitle show.

Then i read about to check if the subtitles are in UTF-8 so i start to check and i found a free app that do a batch convert google for EncodingMaster is a free app.

But i wonder if i need to force the subtitle to an specific encoding to play nice with plex and the appleTV

I have more than 5000 movies and more than to 200 complete TV shows around 14TB so i need a solid response before i start to rename the art files and batch convert the encoding.

I use Maverick 10.9.1

Plex PMS 0.9.8.18.290-11b7fdd

language set to Audio English - subtitles always on - subtitle language Spanish

Apple TV 3 , IOS6 lasted

PHT lasted version

Ipad 3 ios7 lasted plex app

Iphone 4 ios7 lasted plex app

all macs is a windows free home :)

whit the .es.srt on the subtitles, PHT play movies perfect! with subfiles ok

- subtitles are currently "work in progress"

- did you update PMS?

Baa if subtiltes are work in progress where i can download a plexconnect version that work ?

and the name convention for subtiles is ok ? with name.es.srt ?

do i need to change subtitles to UTF8 ??

regards

Go to the January 11th commit, that is the last before subtitle implementation begins. I wouldn’t start changing your files until you figure out the issue, since, as Baa states the functionality is not complete.

All, going back to Jan11 doesn't really fix things, I guess.

You needed to know the fine nuances of container/codecs/subtitle formats...

- m4v/h264/aac files with external SRT did so far never work without user-intervention ("force Transcoding").

- mkv/h264/aac is essentially the same (direct streaming).

- mkv with internal subtitles did never show subs, did they?

- anything other with strange codecs and external subs should have been fine.

So I really think, the best you can get today is the latest, possibly with SubtitleRenderer set to "iOS,PMS" or even "PMS" only.

So

The solution is force transcode on ATV ? and set render to iOS,PMS o PMS ?

When you say .." m4v/h264/aac files with external SRT did so far never work without user-intervention ("force Transcoding")."

all my files are like  this, and work until the other day

This is really frustrating and confussing

Just one thing

I need to put the subtitles in the format mane.es.srt ?? this is the standard for Plex, so  i move foward with that ??

>>m4v/h264/aac files with external SRT

They will work - if you set SubtitleRenderer to anything but "Auto", I guess. You might have to force transcoding, but actually I think the current PlexConnect code should take care of that...
