AFAIK the only way to trigger an update is by checking the Plex web app from a computer browser. Can I trigger one from the iOS app? Or can a friend who I’m sharing libraries with trigger it from their Samsung TV Plex app?
Thanks!

Nope.
But why would you need it? A library update is only necessary after you add or remove files. And Plex will update its library automatically when this happens (at least for locally attached storage. For NAS devices there is still the periodic update available.)
I use a NAS. PMS is running on my gaming PC. I have periodic updates set to 6 hours. Sometimes I’ll grab something I want to watch right away and if I’m not at home, it’d be nice to be able to trigger a library update from the iOS app for example, rather than having to log into the machine running PMS remotely just to do so.
It’s not a huge issue but I was curious. Thanks for your reply
Some ppl with automatic “grabbers” have their software (sickbeard/Sonarr/etc) call up the plex server and trigger the update after a successful recording.
Don’t ask me for details, I only know it is possible. See here:

and here for local access

Sonarr is fairly easy to get working but only for TV shows,? I haven’t tried SickBeard but for movies you can use CouchPotato which is slightly harder to get working fully. These programs look for media and as soon as a copy of the media appears in one of your chosen qualities, it’ll trigger a download. After that you can make the file move location from the download folder to your move one and even rename it. For example “home.alone.3.1080p.25.000.1997.avi” could be moved and unnamed to “Home Alone - 1080p (1997)” automatically. It also searches the file for the information.
Hope this helps, if you need help with something then please feel free to contact me at me@flyinggoatman.com, but make sure you state where I know you from and what you need otherwise I’ll just not be able to remember and think it’s a scam email haha.
I just hit an example. Don’t yet know why, but my Web Client is unstable* and I can’t control or modify our PMS. I wish I could at least scan library files from my iPhone so we can watch the movies I’ve added since the web client went wonky.
