I can’t seem to find one like I can on iOS. I would actually like to disable it. Thanks.
Yup, it’s not there. Let me check if this is intentional.
Not intentionally left out, but the ability to turn it off was just never added. It’s been added to the to-do list.
Thanks for looking into this for me!
Not sure it makes sense to provide a switch, because the Chromecast functionality will still be available on the Shield – even without the Plex app.
Unfortunately we had an incident with this automatically turning on our OLED tv using HDMI-CEC and now I have a PLEX logo permanently burned into the screen. I am currently disabling this functionality on all our TV players. You can also easily disable the chromecast functionality in shield settings.
The Plex logo is probably coming from the general “shelf” on the overall Shield main page.
So disabling the casting functionality within the Plex app is not the solution.
You rather disable the Shield’s ability to switch on the TV per HDMI-CEC. I know there are settings both in the Shield’s preferences and in the preferences of most TV devices for this.
I need the CEC for my home theater automation to function so that’s an option unfortunately. Better off eliminating anything the family might accidentally use to activate it instead. Does the Plex app run in the background on the shield and that’s why I am seeing it sometimes and not others as an available source int he Plex app?
Do you mean as a “media source” or as a “player” (casting target)?
The former would mean “Plex Server”, which is indeed running all the time on the shield (unless it has been disabled in the settings of the Plex app).
As a player. My Plex server is on another computer.
I am told that the app will only announce itself as a casting target if it is currently running.
Many Plex apps do cache the player detections though.
On my phone I sometimes see the plex players at home as a casting target when I arrive in the office and vice versa. However when trying to connect it is failing (of course).
That’s why there is a refresh icon to start a new detection.
Side question: did you set a global screen saver timeout on the Shield? I am told the Plex app is supposed to honor it.
The caching makes sense and maybe thats why I see it come and go. I do have a global screen saver set but the shield sleeps when the AV equipment is turned off also. Where is this casting refresh icon you speak of?
It only appears on Plex apps which are able to act as a “Plex companion controller” ↺

Wish I had that on iOS. Never seen the refresh button. Thanks.
