Server Version#:1.32.2.7100-6000
Player Version#:Web Browser to Local IP
Hi, I woke up yesterday to find my plex user (not offline accounts) was unable to see my locally hosted server, offline/local accounts still worked until I tried to fix it now im just straight out of luck…
There is no synology option here, and it only seems to mention claiming it on localhost, so i did a little bit of latteral thinking (mentioned because it could be this causing me by grief), i used the Linux instructions to wipe the user… I used a network IP not localhost to connect.
Have restarted the server, local users can still see the server (but cant click into areas because not authorised) the master user (logged in as here) still cant see the server or the libraries to access or claim them, have sanitised for security using “…” but below is my XML file.
Can someone please advise? have wiped every cookie i can find.
Have now managed to un-claim the server, by outright deleting the preferences. seems to have done so without messing up the libraries, this is good news. Now having a different issue, but im seeing another post on that, so im going to expand on that post
Uninstall Plex Media Server using the Uninstall Only (first) option.
Re-install the same version of Plex Media Server using the Plex Claim Token option.
From a system on the same network as the NAS, point a private/incognito browser window at the IP address of the NAS: http://syno_ip_address:32400/web. For example, if the IP address is 10.1.2.3, go to http://10.1.2.3:32400/web.
You should be able to login and access the server settings.
Skip the steps to setup libraries, remote access, etc if prompted to do so.
I deleted the Preferences from the Server folder as per the instructions to re-claim the server in my original post,
my original issue was that the actual plex user wasnt seeing the server… at all… the assmption was, it needed to be re-authed… for whatever reason “local users” aka, ones i created inside my plex account that create private users without a plex account COULD still see the server.
Once i deleted the preferences and the original claim on my plex user, they lost the rights to access the server.
With prefs fully deleted i can now see the server but cant claim it… also i keep getting loopback issues on 127.0.0.1 which… feels like an issue with plex because it should know im not local on the server and shoulldnt be trying to connect to my pc but the server instead?
Above you said “wipe a user.” Wanted to make sure you did not delete the Plex/PlexMediaServer user from the NAS.
In Synology Control Panel → Regional Options → Time, synchronize the NAS with a NTP server. This is a quick way to verify internet connectivity and DNS, both of which must be working to claim the server.
No idea about the 127.0.0.1.
You should be able to connect to & claim the server using the NAS IP address. Use a private web browser window to bypass any ad blockers, cookie cutters, etc. You must use the IP address of the NAS. Clicking Open in Package Center, using QuickConnect, etc will not work.
EDIT: You must also be on the same IP subnet as the NAS. If you happen to be remote, establish a SSH tunnel to the NAS. See the On A Different Network section of Plex Media Server Installation instructions.
Ah, thanks for your concern… no i didnt touch users on the NAS, I manage servers, so im USUALLY reasonably good at that (but a fair assumption since i did say “assumptions made about linux instructions”).
I have now 100% solved my problems.
Still not sure about the loopback issue, but I can work that out slowly. I was on DSM6, turns out that despite thinking my Router/DNS was managing all of my IP reservations, this was static, and id just moved the gateway IP, so my issue was actually resolved by the other forum post i was commenting on.
Now just need to unravel all the shares, remove the “old server” and manage my local users again, thats my problem, just havnt done it in about 5 years
