I am desperate! My Plex Server just stopped working today. Went to check the settings via //localhost:32400/web and all my server settings were gone. I followed the instructions from “Why am I locked out of server settings..” article and I was able to see my server again, but when I tried to claim it I can’t. It just sits there with a spinning wheel on the “claim” button. When I try to refresh, the server has completely disappeared from my options and all my content is gone. I can see the server in my “authorized devices” but I cannot access the settings or the content on it.
I’ve tried deleting all authorized devices, signing out of plex, stopping the server, restarting the NAS, restarting my laptop, restarting the server and logging back into //localhost:32400/web and there is nothing there except Plex content. When I click on “Your Media” it tells me I need to get PMS with a button that takes me to a download page to download PMS which I don’t need because I already have it, I just can’t access it!!
I have tried uninstalling (not complete) from the NAS and reinstalling following these instructions to “reclaim the server” (Reddit - The heart of the internet) but still the same outcome!
After all of these efforts I have been able to randomly or occasionally “see” my server (Unclaimed). When I do, I go straight to settings and try to claim it, but I just get a spinning wheel on the Claim button then it stops and the button turns gold again, then all of a sudden I get a “Not Authorized” message and its ALL gone again!!!
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am moderately tech inclined, and willing to try anything, but may need detailed guidance if suggestions are more “in depth” in nature.
I know where the logs are, but there are MANY to choose from just today and I have no idea which one(s) I should include with this post! I was referred to @ChuckPa before doing anything drastic, unfortunately I have already tried a few things as stated above. Hopefully I haven’t gotten myself too far up a creek!!
Where are you running Plex Media Server, on the Synology NAS or on your PC?
“localhost” is the local host, where you are running the browser. That implies you are running Plex on your PC, not the NAS. “localhost” cannot be used to claim Plex running on a Synology NAS.
If you are running Plex on the Synology:
What model?
Is the NAS running DSM 6 or DSM 7?
What is the IP address of the NAS?
Point a private/incognito browser window at the IP address of the NAS: http://syno_ip_address:32400/web. For example, if the IP address is 10.1.2.3, use http://10.1.2.3:32400/web.
You must use the IP address. Do not use Synology QuickConnect, the “Open” button in Package center, a FQDN, etc.
A private/incognito browser window bypasses any cookie cutters or other plug-ins that might interfere.
Can you login an claim the NAS?
If you cannot claim Plex, please pull and attach a set of log files.
In Synology Package Center, stop Plex Media Server.
@FordGuy61 That was my mistake for not being more clear - I have been so flustered by this I was having a hard time explaining everything properly, My PMS is on my Synology NAS (DS1019+ on DMS 7) and I was accessing it using http://IPaddress:32400/web.
With that being said, as of right now I am currently logged into my Claimed server. I uninstalled (Not a complete uninstall) PMS from my synology, rebooted and then installed an older version of PMS (without using a claim code). It essentially reset my servers broad settings as well set my home page layout back to default. But all my media is still where it should be and in the state it should be (watched vs. unwatched, etc). I am not sure if/when I will update to the most recent version of PMS as this seems to be working right now and the headache this whole process has given me is unmeasurable! I may give it some time before I test my luck.
I do appreciate your response and time you took to help!
FWIW, if the older version is stable and meeting your needs, do not worry about upgrading.
Many people, myself included, run older versions of Plex Media Server, upgrading only when necessary.
The Plex Pass releases are beta releases. They are generally stable, but occasionally break existing functionality. If a beta release looks interesting or has a bug fix that affect my systems I’ll download it and install it on my desktop or an old DS414 to see how it works. However, my primary Plex server (PC running Ubuntu) stays on a public release.
