I recently migrated my server from a synology NAS to a QNAP NAS. It has been a complete and utter nightmare and I am so frustrated. After 4 days I finally was able to get my PMS to work and access my libaray. Today I decided to try and add content to the library and I discovered that no new movies or TV shows are being detected. I can watch all my current stuff with the transferred database files and remapped movie and TV folders. But when I place new things in those folders plex is not detecting it. I am at my wits end I am not a linux guy and dont know how to proceed to get this working. I would really love some advice on how to fix this issue. I dot care that much about watch history etc. I would rather not recreate all my friends I have added but I might not have an option. Please help in best path forward to get this working without too much headache. Thanks.
Odds are its a permissions issue. Otherwise can you post your server logs and we can get more information on what is going on.
Which logs are needed? There are a lot of log files.
Post the entire ZIP file.
He sent me the logs via PM, not sure if this is the root cause, but a share point of /share/external/.nd/1000/01b241a5c-c79b-4ac3-a1a8-2d6c23f3fd99 does not look right (however I am not a qnap specialist. Second, your TV show naming is horrid, and does not follow any standards. Have you done a scan library and does that cause the movies to show up?
This is how QNAP obfuscates and hides external USB drives.
It is extremely difficult to use unless using their tools
PMS will not do well with it.
As long as you can properly drill down into the drive, yes it will work.
Thanks @ChuckPa. Was wondering about that path myself.
Can you provide an example of a movie or tv show that Plex is not detecting? A directory listing showing folder and file names, including the file extension.
Also, are they on external drives?
As @dbirch mentions, you do need to spend some time cleaning up naming.
For example, with TV shows, the season folder should simply be “Season 01,” “Season 02,” etc. Not “Show_Name (year) Season 1 DVDrip…”
Thank you call I figure it out. It was a very weird issue. So I go to plex> manage libraries select library than edit. I can click on browse for media folder. When I see that I see my shares that have my videos in the structure that says Videos>Movies and I can see all my files. This was the share I created on File Station for the files and moved them to. It resolved the unable to find files after the migration and pointed to this. However when I added new files it did not work. I figured I was in the right location. But after the above messages I decided to dig around a little and there was another location with the same files in it that was /share/ZFS19_DATA/Video/Movies. Once i deleted the old location and pointed to this new one it started pulling in the files. There were a few I had to fix the naming but that was the fix. Maybe someone can explain to me what is the difference between these 2 folders? They look the same. Thanks for helping and jumping in.
Ah. QuTS – now it makes sense.
What about QuTS? I know it is QNAP latest OS. Is it problematic?
Their ZFS layout / design makes it a bit tougher than QTS.
In QTS, you would have /share/Movies
In QuTS, you would have /share/ZFS540_DATA/Movies
For each shared folder, you always have to dig into it one level and look.
It just takes longer to add folders. (you might have to search through multiple ZFS_xxxxxx folders before you find what you want)
I have another issue that has developed.
randomly, some shows show “unavailable” and have the little red trash can icon. However, clicking through to the episodes, metadata appears, and the files play correctly. But the “unavailable” status persists.
For shows with multiple seasons, generally only one or two seasons are affected. Again, the episodes play correctly, and individual episodes do not have the “unavailable” status. But the affected seasons and the corresponding shows keep the status.
I’m not entirely sure how to correct this, but any advice would be greatly appreciated.
