Issues playing an MP4 file on PS4

Hello, I am having an issue playing some MP4 MKV x264 files on my PS4 (via the Plex app). The media is a 720p MKV file with x264 video and ac3/ac52 audio. When I start playing the file, it seems like its working fine but then skips forward every second or two. The small sections video and audio that do play appear to be synced perfectly and playing fine but it skips forward 5 seconds or so at a time and so frequently that it's impossible to watch a show. Playing the same video through both Chrome and Safari via the webui work fine. Also most other formats seem to work fine on the PS4 but for this particular season (all encoded with same settings) it seems to have issues. Any ideas?

Here is a video of the mentioned issue. Note the time in the lower left skipping ahead. Not sure if you can hear the audio but the audio is synced to their lips so I don't believe this is a codec or buffering issue.

what codec is the file enocded with ? and what hardware are you using to run plex and transcode ?

VLC says the video stream is "H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part10) (avc1)" and the audio stream is "A52 Audio (aka AC3) (a52)". It's a 720p file and it's actually in an MKV container if that makes any difference.  Transcoding is done via a fairly modern mac mini and I've never had issues with any of my 1080p videos (even the higher bitrate ones). Also these particular videos play fine in the webui and seeing as Chrome does not natively support ac3 audio, I would assume it's being transcoded in that case as well. Also worth noting is that it plays fine to the Plex app on my android tablet (1440p screen) so I really think it's an issue with the PS4 app.

sounds like maybe plex is having trouble with the file mkv could be transcoding and having issues doing it for some reason.

yeah doesn't seem like the server or transcoding issue to me just because the webui on other devices and the plex app on my android both have no issue but certainly could be something with the decoding end on ps4. mini is running centos 6 with latest updates and I've never had an issue playing any of my media on any other devices

Wow! That is heinous! Thanks a million for the video example.

Will you please attempt to recreate the issue with a sample clip? That is absolutely a bug in Sony's PS4 playback system. I'm hoping the same issue occurs with the sample file.

If so please let me know; I absolutely would appreciate providing a bug report to Sony with an example of the problem.

Thanks!

Thanks!

I tried using MKVToolNix to trim an episode to 50MB and added that back to my plex server. Yes, the problem still persists. Would you like me to upload this sample or a smaller chunk somewhere or email? Thanks for looking into it

Thanks, that's actually awesome news!

Ok sounds good, here is the ~50MB file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5QgokSQT4_1UVNMcTR5MHRuVjg/view?usp=sharing

Great got it. Thanks!
