Server Version#: plexmediaserver-plexpass-1.18.0.1944 Plex Media Server - Freebsd - Iocage Jail
Player Version#: latest (windows, appletv, and web)
I just upgraded to the latest version of Plex Media Server within my jail on a Freenas box. Haven’t had any trouble with previous upgrades. I’m able to access all the content (as the owner of the server) but I’m unable to access contact from managed users or friends. Within a managed user account my server appears as unauthorized, even though I have completed the link multiple times on the AppleTV. On web, it loads some content from the main owner account but none of it can be played. Any help on this would be great. Thank you
If it we me, and I hypothesized that there wasn’t a bug but rather something awry in how the Plex Home evolved over time, I would attempt to return to a default state.
To do that I would connect to the server through the web app as admin and delete myself from the Plex Home, which will remove all the managed users and management
Restart PMS, give it 6min, then create my Plex Home again.
Give myself a PIN. Create a couple of managed users and test.
If you’d rather debug this with Log Files we could go down that path.
Hey how’s it going. It’s good to hear you found a version that works well.
When I was talking about doing the step that deletes the Plex Home, you would not have to re-create Libraries. Your server metadata does not need to re-created either.
Just a heads up… This issue kept coming up when updating. I’ll re-describe the issue again.
Issue: After upgrading, Friends and managed users lose access to the library. They get an error “unauthorized”. The owner of the server still has full access remotely and locally. Friends and Managed users lose all access remotely and locally.
Solution: You need to delete your preferences.xml in the configuration for the plex server. You will then need to re-adopt the server and re-share libraries with managed users and friends. You MUST re-adopt the server from the same subnet!!! Otherwise adoption will fail.
I’m assuming this error comes from having legacy options in preferences.xml or something similar. You will not lose your libraries (don’t re-import) or managed users/shared users or any histories of usage. All you have to do is re-share your libraries.
