My server recently started having issues connecting to Plex.tv. This started after I swapped routers. Metadata can’t be collected and remote access won’t work since my IP can’t be updated. I’ve tried using alternate DNS servers but can’t figure out what’s going on. I receive the following warnings and errors within console.
Error issuing curl_easy_perform(handle): 6
[MetadataAgent/tv.plex.agents.movie] Unable to find media provider
On your server, if you simply open a command-prompt (if Windows) or shell (if Linux) what happens if you “ping plex.tv” ?? Does it resolve to some IP-address ?
If not, your router is the issue, that needs fixing first. You issue then has nothing to do with the product “Plex”
wild ■■■■ guess, your old router and your new router using a different subnet.
devices on dhcp will/should pull the new ip and work fine, but anything with a static ip is probably still on the old subnet/router info.
ping 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 will tell you if you get out to the internet. if it doesn’t, then you probably have a gateway/subnet issue.
if that works, but ping google.com does not, then there is a dns problem. using 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 as dns (assuming you can ping them).
if you can’t successfully ping by both ip and domain names, then don’t expect plex (or much else) to work properly.
none of this is an actual plex problem though so don’t go changing a bunch of plex settings, its just a generic router/network problem you will have to figure out, since it is specific to your network.
I was able to get it working and forgot to update this thread until now. Within Synology, I configured the DNS manually to use Google Public DNS. It immediately started working.
