Items Falling Off EPG Before DVR Can Record Them

Please do update to the new beta 1.12.3 which has better EPG Refresh

After updating to the new 1.12.3 beta, please make sure a manual EPG Refresh is done

Worked for 3 days straight…ran the update to 1.12.3…did a manual EPG refresh and lost 3 shows for tonight.

A problem has just been found which results in lost airings which would lead to lost scheduled recordings after a refresh

The issue arises when in Day Light Savings time

When doing an EPG Refresh, Airings at midnight GMT will disappear for the current day. Add/Subtract your offset from GMT and see if that fits with the times of the missing recordings - the recordings would be during 00:00 to 01:00 GMT

A fix will be released soon

Looks like I was on the right track back on 4/6 with my post about this.

Wow - Good bet. The issue was because we ask for an extra hour and gracenote only returns 24 hours

I can’t help but wonder if the time change on March 11/12th is the cause of this. It’s about the time frame when people started noticing this happening. I can’t help but wonder if parts of the code are using local time while other parts are using universal time and this could cause a one hour difference and maybe cause things do drop off the schedule if they have already passed

The hot fix release for the bug giving rise to lost airings and recordings between 00:00 and 01:00 GMT on the day the EPG is refreshed is now available as beta release 1.12.3.4973-215c28d86

  • (DVR) Keep airings in US primetime from disappearing from the schedule on each refresh (#8448)

I’m genuinely curious - what kind of testing does PLEX do prior to releases? Something like this should be caught in testing prior to release. Feels like we, the end users who get on the forum, are doing the testing and providing feedback.

It was not easy to pick up. Only affected users on DST and only affected programs for a specific hour in the 24 hour day with this hour being different for different time zones

Hang on a moment here. If I read all the posts correctly and the above, pretty much everything near prime time in the continental US was affected. Based on the fact you’ve said 8PM to one east coast user and 7PM to me, here’s the impact across the US.

EDT = 8PM, CDT = 7PM, MDT = 6PM, PDT = 5PM

That is why it was rushed out as a hotfix within hours of the problem being identified

I can confirm that the fix resolved the issue for me. After installing the update, Roseanne recorded as scheduled for the first time. Thanks Plex Team for knocking this out quickly!

So far, so good for me as well, although, I’d like to make it through to next week before definitively considering this fixed.

Just had “The 100” drop off. It showed as scheduled at 9:30am on 4/24 and I just checked this morning (4/25) and it was not recorded. It is doing much better but still does not seem completely fixed.

Roseanne didn’t show up on my EPG yesterday and it didn’t record.

would need to investigate these just like how the original problem was investigated and finally fixed

So will need debug logs / screenshots

If scheduled show visible and then disappears - would need screenshots and logged at these times

If show just does not appear then would need logs after a refresh of the EPG and screenshots

There wasn’t a new episode of Roseanne last night. There won’t be a new one until May 1st.

I do have screenshots but logging was not on. I have turned logging on and will wait to see if it happens again. So far everything else has recorded just fine. Thanks

The object of the exercise for diagnostics is to have screenshots and logs that demonstrate the items are there. Then logs and screenshots to cover the time when they disappear - which previously happened on Program Guide refresh

I actually found the issue. Not sure if this is a defect or not but regardless is not tied to the EPG updating. I noticed another CW program not recording and in looking at my HDHomerun I realized that 1 of the 2 I have did not have the CW selected. My guess is Plex did not prioritize the CW to be recorded on the HDHomerun that had that channel selected. So when it tried to record on second tuner it did not have that channel selected and failed to record. My assumption would be if you have 2 tuners Plex would realize that the channels might not be the same and prioritize correctly but it does not. I checked the CW on both tuners and it is now recording fine.

As for the EPG it seems fixed as I have had no issues since the patch.
