I've broken my Plex accounts

Hello there,

I ****** things up very bad I guess.

First of all, this account is the account of a friend of mine.
My problem is not regarding this account.

So I have two other plex accounts, let’s call them A and B.

I have a server with A as the owner, but I wanted to share my PMS with my friend (this account).
I needed to have shared libraries for movies/tvshows/music but seperate libraries for private photos.

I didn’t knew how to change the owner of my PMS so I changed the email of A to another email and named the A account a bit different (actually just appending “NAS” to the name). Then I created another account (the B account) and added it to PMS via A. The email and username of B was the old username/email of A.

Summary:

Before:
Id | Name | Email
A | AName | amail@atld.com

After:
Id | Name | Email
A | AName NAS | amailNAS@atld.com
B | AName | amail@atld.com

Hope you understand what I mean.

But it didn’t worked how I wanted it to do, therefore I decided to reverse anything like deleting B, renaming A to it’s original name and change the mail of A back to the original.

But at this point I broke everything I guess.
I can’t login with any of those accounts, I can’t reset the passwort (I get no reset email) and I can’t access anything at all.

I would just create a new account but the problem is that I have plex pass and can’t cancel it without accessing account and I actually want to use both my original email and username, which are currently “in use”.

I will provide the real emails/account names via PM to Plex staff.

Why did you feel the need to change the owner of the PMS?
You can share any of your libraries separately with any other plex.tv account.
No need to change anything, except inviting the other plex user to your server and selecting which libraries (s)he is supposed to see.

Yes, I know but I don’t want to be able to e.g. access the photo library of my friend by accident. When having three accounts (one for the nas, one for myself and one for my friend) I won’t access his private stuff by accident.

I still don’t understand. Are you hosting your friend’s server at your own home?

If you share your server with your friend using the above linked procedure, there is no way for you to access your friend’s data accidentally - unless he is sharing his server with you in return.

But even then the both of you can precisely define which libraries get shared and which don’t.

You don’t need your friend’s account data to access his server.
If he decides to share with you, you are logging in with your own plex credentials. You are just switching servers afterwards (2 clicks in the web app).

If you have several Plex servers, you don’t need several plex accounts. They can all go under the same.

I’m going to move together with my friend. There’s just my server, where I have all my stuff on. I also want that my friend can access some stuff (e.g. movies, tvshows, etc.) and also have a own media library for his private photos.

I know I can just create a library for him, but that library also shows up when I’m logged in on my account.

Basically I just want to hide “his” library on my PMS under my account, you know what I mean?

That’s not possible.
If you are the main user (the admin) of the server, you will always have access to all libraries.
If he wants to keep some media private, your friend needs his own, separate server.

I know that this is not possible. That’s the reason why I created another account for myself (B). So i’ll have the administrator account from where I can manage everything but using plex using the B account so I don’t access something by accident.

Ahh, now I got it!
You might want to install a second web browser which you keep logged into the admin plex account, so you don’t have to switch accounts all the time in your default browser.

Keep in mind that the web browser has a separate login to the plex account, which is handled here:

Switching accounts for the server is easily done in the ‘Server - General’ settings page.

If you for some reason cannot access the server settings (probably still logged in to the wrong plex account in the browser?) here is a procedure to remove server from the wrong plex account forcefully:

Nah, this isn’t the big deal. I’m using a password manager and I can also just switch the accounts using the pin. But my problem is that I can’t access my account at all anymore. I cannot login on A (or B), it says the password is wrong, but it definitly isn’t. Also resetting my password does not work because I don’t get an email at all.

Yes, I did after you told me to. I thought that this is only for Plex Pass support, that’s why I wrote to this forum first.

That is correct, but they are also the only ones who have access to account data. They can sort you out with your multiple accounts.
