I decided to start my morning by renaming my Futurama files to match the tvdb DVD volume order.
The following paragraphs are covered in the video, so you can just watch it instead of reading them.
Un-mute in the top right, 100 seconds
*edit - second half of video
Everything was working nicely, until I noticed that Plex had named the first four episodes of season 5 as the Futurama movies, which I had over in their own specials folder. Season 5 episode 1 was pulling from the correct season 5 episode 1 file, but Plex was using the metadata for one of the movies.
So, I went into manually edit, and it worked for the first one, but halfway through editing the second one, I ran into an issue where the entire thing froze when I tried to upload a new background image.
So I went to the web app and tried to upload the new background there, and well it didn’t freeze, and claimed that it had worked, it actually hadn’t.
Next, I noticed that it was saying these episodes had been released in 1969, when I tried to edit the date, it didn’t freeze again, but it just reverted it to 1969. This happens in both the Windows app and the web app.
Just a heads up, the instructions in there for cleaning bundles are now incorrect.
I did the entire Plex dance, including cleaning the bundles under troubleshooting, and the issues persist they’ve just changed slightly. The wrong names on the episodes changed to other wrong names. The entire windows app still freezes when I try to change the background, and I still can’t change the background in the web app.
The Plex Dance article is correct. You can clean bundles by selecting the ellipsis next to the server name, in addition to Settings → Troubleshooting.
Download from Plex and install: plex.tv → Download
or
Scroll to bottom of this thread, Downloads → Plex Media Server
Not sure why Plex is not naming correctly on your system.
My system:
PMS v1.26.1.5772.
Library is using Plex TV Series scanner & agent and Episode Ordering = The TVDB.
Show has Episode Ordering = TheTVDB (DVD)
So I updated the server to the version in the link, and redid the entire Plex dance. The date issue is fixed, but everything still freezes when I try to to change the background, and it’s still pulling the wrong metadata.
I just noticed that the few screwed up episodes actually line up with the tvdb aired order. But it’s only those few episodes.
The specific episodes that are having a problem are ones that I edited manually back under my old configuration. It seems that no matter how many times I empty the trash or clean bundles, there’s information being left behind because it’s causing a metadata error only on the ones that I had manually edited in the past, and when the Plex dances finished, I don’t think it’s supposed to remember which episodes I have and have not watched. It feels like cleaning bundles and emptying the trash isn’t getting rid of everything
Also, when you move the show back, only add Season 5. Make sure it is correct. Then add the other seasons. This just makes troubleshooting a bit faster, since Plex does not have to process the entire series, just a few episodes.
FYI, on cleaning bundles, you do that at the server level, not the library level. Choose More >, then your server, not the library.
Regarding freezing, use Plex Web, https://app.plex.tv/desktop/, instead of Plex for Windows. Plex Web should work w/o issue for adding shows, etc.
Plex for Windows should work, but on some PCs it has problems with stuttering, freezing, etc.
You are not doing exactly what is in the screenshot in the Plex Dance link.
You need to first click more at the very bottom of your pinned list and then you’ll be on the same menu as the picture in the link.
From there you can then click the 3 vertical dots that appear when you hover over the name of your server and follow the remainder steps.
So just to be clear, everything is now fine regarding the ordering.
But, the entire thing still freezes when I attempt to upload either a background or a poster. This is less of a problem at this point because I don’t need to manually edit the Futurama episodes any further, but it is going to be a problem later.
Good to read you have the naming/ordering working. Not sure why it took so many attempts.
FYI, you do not have to upload posters, etc. You can place them in the same folder as the media. Some prefer this method as it is difficult to delete files once uploaded and it does not increase the size of the Plex data folder.
You will have to edit the library and enable “Use Local Assets.” The configuration in Settings → Agents do not apply to the Plex Movie and Plex TV Series agents/scanners. See the docs below for details.
