Jitter suddenly happening on Apple TV

PMS is running on a Synology NAS. The player is an Apple TV 4K. In the past week or two, playback on the Apple TV has had a noticeable jitter, as if frames are regularly getting dropped. I’ve run this exact setup for several years without issue; the only possible change recently is keeping the server and player up-to-date. It looks like there was a recent similar report, making me wonder if this is a widespread issue. I’ve looked at various system metrics on the server and there’s nothing obviously wrong when this is occurring.

Things I have tried:

  1. Enabling “Use Old Video Player”: This seems to stop the jitter issue, but introduces a new issue that I’d describe as a flicker. On occasion a few black frames will display in quick succession.
  2. Disabling “Allow Direct Play”: No noticeable effect.
  3. Rebooting server, rebooting client: No effect.
