Thanks VERY MUCH for this .apk file, it seems to have worked, at least for the one time I’ve been able to use it away from my network today. It also seems like the long black screen/lag time for it to begin playing was slightly improved.
It sounds like most of you are having this problem across the board. I only get it with some movies. Same? Different? Will the pending update fix my problem as well?
I still get it quite a lot, but it happens only with particular files (consistently). My symptoms are.
- These videos still play fine on other platforms (macos desktop player), and used to play fine on older android app.
-Problematic video files play fine if I force transcoding.
So an obvious cause ( a pure guess of course) might be that the new Plex player on android is picky about certain files, in a way that the old one (and every other app ) is not.
I also tried remuxing one of the files (which is an h264 avc1 1080p video with AAC audio) , and that didn’t help.
I couldnt install the apk provided, but I am assuming that if I am in the beta channel for the app, I should have got the patch through there by now. (It’s 28th May here)
The latest updates seem to have fixed it for me. I can’t find any files that don’t play on the new Android app that played before. Well done developers.
I know there are still a lot of complaints about the app, and things that are sluggish, but I am now on the side of it’s working well enough for me to hang on and hope it gets better.
Still having this problem. Client: 2025.21.0 on Android 16. Server: 1.41.9.9961 on Linux.

This did not fix mine. Still getting source error every 5 or so minutes on Android app latest version while outside home network.
