I just signed up for a 30 day trail and I have spent all day trying to figure out how to control Plex with a remote. I have a Harmony hub with Elite and a Flirc on a Windows 7 computer. I tried everything possible and have had no luck. I resorted to attaching a keyboard to the computer and used the keyboard shortcuts and again no luck. What gives? How do I control Plex?
Use Plex Media Player, preferably in TV Mode instead:
Thanks for the fast reply. I don’t understand. I have installed 1.4.9.140 Plex. How do I get v2.47 and what is TV mode?
Why is v2.47 not on the Plex download page? All I see is
Plex for Windows
Windows 10 or later (64-bit only).

Where did you get v2.47? Why is 1.4.9.140 showing as the download app on the Plex download page? What am I missing?
Just follow the orange-colored link above to get directly to the download of PMP.
Yes, I downloaded it. My question is why does the main web site for Plex say the Windows version is 1.4.9.140 updated Nov 2019 when this is completely wrong? Why do we go to the forum to download Plex? Shouldn’t your main website be accurate?

By downloading this software, you confirm that you accept the Terms and Conditions and are at least 13 years old.
It’s … complicated.
“Plex for Windows” is not “Plex Media Player”, but a separate app.
PfW was originally slated to completely replace PMP. However, without the ability to bitstream surround audio, refresh rate switching and support for remote controls this lead to protests by users with your use case. So it was agreed upon to “keep PMP going” for the foreseeable future, but without adding new features.
So that’s why the download is tucked away in a forum thread. Because in a few months PMP could start to lag behind, feature-wise.
Thank you for explaining this. I just bought a lifetime Plex pass, but now I find out I bought something that will not be updated. Perhaps I made a bad decision to go with Plex.
And the Plex media player I have installed on my computer says the version is 3.140.2. Where did that come from if the newest version is v2.47?
The Plex Pass is not for Plex Media Player. PMP is usable completely without paying anything.

There are a multitude of other Plex clients which could suit your use case. Take a look at the nVidia Shield or the Apple TV for instance.
What you need to keep in mind with Plex: there is no need to keep server and client within the same device. A server can feed several/many clients.
The server doesn’t need to be in the living room near the TV, where it doesn’t go unnoticed when it produces heat and noise. In many cases, it is favorable to have the server someplace else and connect it to the client(s) with a network wire.
This is very different from the traditional “HTPC” we used to have.
The version numbers shown inside the app are referring to the respective software versions of the ‘desktop’ and ‘fullscreen’ modes of the user interface.
You can refer to the release notes of Plex Web (desktop mode) and Smart TV (fullscreen mode) Plex apps to learn about the specifics of those software versions.
Yes, I understand that. However, I really don’t want to have to buy a Plex Pass $125, Nvidia Shield $200, a NAS $500, and a HDHomeRun $150 when I have an excellent solution with a Windows PC attached to my 75 inch Vizio.
