I’m adding some home videos of various lengths, and I’ve noticed that none of the larger ones (~4,096,000 K) get picked up in the scan. They just never appear on the UI to watch. All the smaller ones do. Do I need to retranscode these to chop them into smaller files?
I’m not aware of any file size limits when it comes to Plex scanning / cataloging files. You’ll find a number of users storing high-quality / high bitrate 4K HEVC HDR content that’ll be significantly bigger than 4 GB.
There’s some old file systems that have a file size limitation – then again… if you were able to save the file in the first place, that won’t be the limiting factor for you.
How exactly have you organized / named those files?

I am having the same issue when I add large files to the other videos library. I have tried several times adding various file types but seems to never scan anything over 4gb or show in the user interface. Even when do a search for video it does not show. Does anyone else have this issue?
4gb file limits remind me of old file systems like FAT – Plex has no such restriction. Is this some kind of tricky use case you’re using to mount that drive?
The most common issues why files aren’t recognized are with regards to file naming and organization or unsupported formats (e.g. disc images).

Thanks for responding. I am using a simple hard drive in my PC. All my videos ware on the same drive nothing fancy. All my files are the same .MP4. The only difference seems to be the file size. I have removed several videos, restarted plex and added them back and it only sees the small ones. The names are simple also. Nothing long.

What’s the file name (preferably the full file path from the folder linked to your library) and what library type is this about?
Have you already checked your library for duplicates to verify the file hasn’t accidentally been merged with an existing item in your library? Similarly – do you find any oddball items in your library when you sort it it by date-added or from the recently added hub on the library “Recommended” tab / server’s home page (verifying the files haven’t been mismatched as some other movie)
There’s no file-size limit when it comes to adding media to Plex – certainly no 4 GB limit… almost every movie ripped from a DVD is bigger than that.
