Latest Plex Mobile update - nothing for NAS?

Hi everyone,

Sorry if this is a double up, but I have an Asustor NAS that runs my server and this morning I suddenly had the Android mobile app update forced on me. Now it says my server is outdated and can’t be accessed, but there is no new update for the Asustor NAS version of the server app. I watch most of my media on my phone so this has really bricked things for me. What do I do? :folded_hands:

If the Asustor app center doesn’t offer the updated server, you should be able to install it manually.

  1. download the version of PMS for your NAS from https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/?cat=nas&plat=asustor
  2. open the NAS admin interface and go to the app center to manually install that app package

Sideloading worked - I’ve never done that before, but it was simple enough. Thank you so much!

Hi, thanks for guidance to manual update @tom80H. Is anyone in touch with Asustor company so that the situation will be fixed for future releases?

Good point - while I’m grateful for the advice and that it worked, I hope Plex as a company understands that I shouldn’t have had to sideload in the first place!

From what I understand, Plex shares every (public) release with the various NAS vendors. But it’s up to them to publish the new versions in their App Store environment.

I’ve seen posts with statements that Plex are actively following up with the vendors if they’re falling significantly behind. But seemingly there’s not much leverage.
This was previously especially impactful for some WD devices which didn’t offer an option to manually upgrade the installation.
I suppose, not every vendor has a full team or level of automation behind their app stores / centers / repositories compared to what you’re used to when it comes to e.g. Google’s Play Store or Apple’s App Store.
