Server Version#:DS1821+
Player Version#:PlexMediaServer-1.41.0.8994-f2c27da23-x86_64_DSM7
I am running Plex on a Synology DS1821+ NAS and I just upgraded the Operating system to DSM 7.2.2-72806. The Plex application now has an error in the Control Panel saying ‘The Plex package version installed is incompatible with your DSM.’
Anyone else suffering from this problem? I’ve tried to contact Plex but Plex support just gives you a list of articles to read. Anyone have any ideas?
Synology changes in DSM 7.2.2 required Plex to make a DSM 7.2.2+ specific package.
-
Uninstall Plex Media Server. When prompted, choose the Uninstall Only (first) option. This preserves your /PlexMediaServer folder.
-
Download the DSM 7.2.2+ version of Plex Media Server from plex.tv. As the DS1821+ has the AMD Ryzen V1500B CPU, you’ll want the Intel/AMD 64-bit version.
-
Install using Package Center, as you would any other PMS update.
Plex Media Server should now run.
I have identical problem to upgrading DSM on DS920. FordGuy61 - should I use the armv7, armv8 or Intel AMD 64bit
Thanks so much Ford Guy… it worked (using 64 bit Ver)
Thank you!!
Trying to uninstall Plex Media Server as recommended, however, there is only one “Uninstall” choice. No “Uninstall Only (first) option”. Is my /PlexMediaServer folder going to be uninstalled if I choose “Uninstall”? I’m running a Synology DS920+.
Thank you
I figured it out. AFTER you click on the only “Uninstall” choice, a dialog box comes up asking “Are you sure you want to uninstall this package?” Clicking on “Next” opens a second dialog box where “Uninstall Only” is the first option that when selected preserves your /PlexMediaServer folder.
Thank you for the guidance in helping getting Plex working again!
I installed the DSM 7.2.2-72806 upgrade and plex stopped working.
Uninstalled and reinstalled it manually the latest version for DSM 7.2.2+ choosing “unistall only|” option and does nto work either.
I rebooted every time but no way of sorting out anything useful.
The last only option was to uninstall choosing the option “erase all plex media servers from this server”.
And finally reinstalling it starts but cannot access the web gui on port 32400. it gices an error:“This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.”
Fount the solution of using IP:32400/web
Finally it works but you lose all of your configs.
It’s quite annoying that PLEX cannot actually support this further providing a seamless solution.
The changes in Plex Media Server installation processes were required due to Synology changes when moving from DSM 6 to DSM 7 and then to DSM 7.2.2.
The Plex Media Server installer has restricted privileges. As a result, manual intervention is sometimes required (such as when moving from DSM 6 to DSM 7).
Yes. The aforementioned DSM changes means earlier versions of Plex Media Server will not work on DSM 7.2.2 systems.
Did you update from DSM 6 or from an earlier release of DSM 7?
Updating from an earlier release of DSM 7 is straightforward - uninstall Plex Media Server, update to 7.2.2, install the DSM 7.2.2 version of Plex Media Server. See FAQ 34: Upgrading Plex to DSM 7.2.2+.
Moving from DSM 6 to DSM 7 is more involved. The process is covered in FAQ 27 - Migrating an existing PMS from DSM 6 to DSM 7.
The next time you run into problems with Plex, post to the forum before deleting and starting over. Updating due to DSM 7.2.2 changes does not require losing your existing configuration.
Just wanted to thank every one for making the upgrade to 7.2.2 so easy and seemless. I suppose this is one advantage to being late to update to 7.2.2 is that all the issues are sorted. However, I am beyond overjoyed that I can continue to use Plex with my Synology NAS. Thanks again all.
