Launching Plex Media Server immediately breaks wifi (MacOS)

Server Version#: 1.29.2.6364-6d72b0cf6 (latest as of today)
Player Version#: N/A

I have Plex Media Server on my Macbook Pro (MacOS Monterey). 99% of the time I use the Media Player on the same machine and Chromecast to a TV.

Lately, upon launching Plex Media Server, it immediately breaks the wifi on the Macbook Pro. So not only can I not Chromecast to the TV, I can’t use the internet at all.

Launching Plex Media Server is definitely the cause. I’ve checked a dozen times. As soon as I launch it, the wifi breaks. Once I quit Plex Media Server, the wifi problem persists most of the time - I have to reboot the machine.

No other devices on the network are affected. Only the Macbook Pro on which the Server is launched.

Also -

I can recreate the problem on another Macbook Pro!

Any idea where I should begin to look to solve the problem? It’s got me stumped.

I fixed it!

Here’s what to do if you’ve found this page after searching for a solution to the same problem…

I have CenturyLink Fiber - you need to disable their “Cyber Security” mode in Advanced Settings on your router. One of the things it blocks by default is the PMS.

If you have another ISP, look for a similar thing in your router settings.

Good luck!
