Server Version#: 1.40.2.8395
Player Version#: LG OLED55GX6LA - Latest version (Need to check)
I’m trying to play a high quality bluray rip: 4K HDR10 (HEVC Main 10) File my_high_quality_movie.mkv Size 82.21 GB Audio Profile Engels (DTS-HD MA 5.1) Container MKV Video Profile main 10 Codec HEVC Bitrate 61409 kbps
I want to watch the video with subtitles. But my server isn’t fast enough to transcode the video to burn-in the subtitles. (I doesn’t have a GPU)
LG OLED TV’s can work with SRT subtitles without needing then to burn-in, correct? So why is Plex burning in the subtitles?
When I watch the movie without subtitles, only the audio is converted. (LG still doesn’t support DTS…)
When I add SRT subtitles (from OpenSubtitles), it starts to transcode the video and burn-in the subtitles! Even when the TV Plex Player setting “burn-in subtitles” is set to “Never”.
Why can’t I watch this movie with subtitles and only a transcode of the audio?
I have found a workaround:
Iconverted the audio to Dolby Digital 5.1 (AC3), which is natively supported by my TV. And now it plays the video without transcoding at all and it also shows SRT subtitles direclty now. Bit of a pain in the ass if you ask me. But it works…
I hope that Plex finds a fix for it soon for this platform as well.
They fixed it in Android, so hopefully other platforms will follow quickly!
I would still very much like a fix for this issue as well. At least give me an option to just force the video stream and I’ll see for myself if it desyncs or not.
