Sorry to interrupt your topic but I have just installed Plex on a LG TV in my parents house and encountered burning in subtitles. Is there way to avoid this while playing transcoded movies with .srt subtitles? I have relatively large library of 4K HDR content but my upload speed doesn’t allow me direct play every movie.
I moved your thread out here in the LG forum as it is more appropriate plus we can discuss freely without interrupting the thread.
Subtitle burning occurs in one of two scenarios:
- when the subtitles in the video can’t be played by the player (the LG).
- when the player is set to force-burn the subtitles (often not desirable but an option).
Given these are being transcoded, PMS is set to burn-in all subtitles. I believe it’s done to keep the subtitles in sync with the video timing.
I will ask if it’s possible , or if they would consider investigating, not forcing subtitle burn when transcoding.
I know that LG does not support image based subtitles. Subtitles mode is set on automatic. I use only .srt subtitles.
Is there difference between embedded and external .srt subtitles in case of burning-in?
Why does subtitles burn in on LG TVs but does not on Mac, Windows, iOS, safari, etc when the video is transcoded?
