Server Version#: 1.22.2.4282
Player Version#: Client 5.12.2; Platform 4.9.0
This has been an ongoing issue.
I have set the IP address and port for the server in the ‘manual servers’ setting in the player app.
I see a lot of other users are having this issue with WebOS, and with the newest plex player app update. Before I updated the player app, I was able to switch to the old interface and that seemed to resolve this issue. After updating to the new plex player app, I can no longer switch to the old interface so this issue is now here to stay. I have to access media on the plex server through the native WebOS media server app. It’s not as nice…
The app on the tv just can’t find the server. I have the app on a Samsung TV and it has no problems finding the server. I don’t think that app is the latest version though.
Logging into the server on a computer from app.plex.tv, the media server can’t be found. Logging into the server using it’s private IP address, the server can be found.
All devices are on my local network.
I have followed the steps outlined here as well, and nothing has worked:
@leonard383_gmail_com I was having a similar issue, but even when my webOS client found the server, playback was still an issue. I noticed that my wired clients were working and my wifi clients were not. So I ran an ethernet cable to my LG TV and problem solved. I used ethernet powerline adapters because my TV is far from my router. Works no problem now. Maybe try wired.
This is probably long past now but figure would post anyway. I’ve had several issues with my LG TV and apps including now again with Plex app.
One time it was a strange compatibility issue with LG OLED TV and Ubiquiti Wi-Fi AC pro when running off 5G only where I ended up creating a profile for 2.4/5G or just 2.4 to make it work properly aside from physically wired. A ping test to TV resulted in unstable or high latency responses causing network drops. Most apps on the TV were screwy but with Plex it was working but poor playback. This doesn’t seem to be an issue anymore though.
Today’s issue was related to the plex server not resolving the TV IP by name. The TV had no issues resolving to plex server but seems like there is some handshake stuff or plex server needs to verify the client. My DNS cache was stuck on an old entry for TV and found ping would not respond to incorrect IP address of the TV. Once that was cleared up the app connected immediately.
Some of these ISP routers are pretty bad for DNS to IP address resolving sometimes also. My DNS issue was my own mistake using a pfSense firewall and having an entry I forgot to remove about a month ago. I’ve had flaky stuff happen before on ISP router or other brand name routers too where I didn’t have as much control clearing out any cache settings. Sometimes you can get around stuff like that by modifying the local server hosts file to override DNS and point right to the TV IP. That could help if you are experiencing anything similar.
Other than that… sign out, reset app settings, re-login and other basics usually do the trick.
