Library auto-refreshing is no longer working on Plex Media Server of Synology DS1520+

Server Version#:1.25.5.5492-7000
Player Version#:1.25.5.5492-7000

Hi there,

This is happening after the Plex Server Update! I tried serval things and eventually found these! I have to either restart the Synology server or reinstall the Plex Server, then it will be refreshing once at the beginning, but this only lasts for a very short time, then it stopped no matter what I did on Plex! So what can I do now?

There is an ongoing issue with the scanner process that is likely the root cause of what you’re seeing. You can restart your server to get it to see changes for a short period of time or attempt to revert to 5409 until a patch is issued. Please keep an eye on this thread for updates.

Thanks for your help. Sorry, what is 5409, and how can I revert to that?

An older version of Plex for Synology, specifically Version 1.25.3.5409. If you have the install binary you downloaded for the version still around you can simply uninstall Plex from your NAS (choosing to leave config and data) and reinstall using the 5409 binary via the method you’d normally use to upgrade in place. If you don’t have the binary I may have a link to it somewhere as Plex doesn’t publish an archive of older versions for some reason.

Please send me the link to download the 5409 and will try to revert the server accordingly. Many thanks!

Thankfully I still had the download history cached in Chrome. 5409 can be located here:

Thanks very much, and I will try it accordingly.

If I may add?

It’s usually a good idea to keep a couple versions handy .
They are only 100 MB each (max) ; less than a typical media file.

Thanks, I agreed and will do it. Btw I just checked that there is a new version of 5545. I am going to try it as well. If it is still not working, then I will reinstall 5409 again.

Hello, I have exactly the same problem.
I wanted to go back to the previous version as you suggested but the Synology package installer detects that it is an older version and does not allow to downgrade.

As mentioned uninstall Plex first via the Package Manager, choosing the leave the config and data files in place. Then do a manual install of 5409.

no risk to loose the config ?
I’m just scared about that idea !

Don’t be afraid.

  1. Uninstall + KEEP (which is the default action)
  2. Now install the lower version.

I created this capability to allow you to both change versions as well as start over

Software is stored in the @appstore.
Your data is in PlexMediaServer shared folder and it is kept safe.

I am having te same problems with the library updating so I tried the solution you came up with, this is not working on my DS920+. Is there another possible solution for this problem perhaps?

Are the people who have the problem using PLEX from their Apple TV?
I noticed that I had folders that I ran a manual update scan on and got stuck in that state. After I “undid the scan” things seemed to fall into place.

Is it possible that the server remembers that a manual scan was requested and that it remains in this state when blocked?

Even though I trust the procedure, I’ll wait for the next versions. Currently if I stop and restart the server it starts working again (even if it ends up unblocking again)

I’d advise swinging by one of the larger threads talking about this issue for more updates. As far as your configs, you can just go copy out the files from the PlexMediaServer share folder and keep them somewhere else for safe keeping if you’re that worried about it. My current install started 3 computers and 4 hosting methods ago, so it really isn’t fragile in that aspect.

If reverting to 5409 didn’t do it, then the only known workaround that I’ve seen is just restarting Plex after you add new media and kicking off a library scan manually. It’ll still get stuck after a bit, but you should be able get by depending on how frequently you’re adding media.

I stopped Plex on my NAS and started again, but nothing happens if I scan my library. Only the old movie/serie files are found.
I also tried to completely remove the PLex Media server without any effect…
