How come my Plex server with my movies and stuff on it can’t be found in other plex apps For example, My Kids accounts, they don’t live with me, but they have access to my Plex. Why can’t they see my library when I can?
Your server computer must be running when they want to access content on it.
A computer in hibernation mode is not running.
Have you ever tried to access your own server while out of house? e.g. using the Plex mobile app on a phone or tablet
I can get on and see everything on my end but my family can’t see anything on their end. It use to work so I’m not sure what happened.
I haven’t tried outside the house no but I should look into that when I leave the house today. If I can’t, what’s the solution?
Thanks
That depends on whether you are closing the laptop’s lid when you leave the house.
(or if you even take the laptop with you, it has no realistic chance to ever work )
Another topic would be if your internet connection is even able to support a remote connection to your server at all.
Has remote access to your server ever worked in the past?
Yes, it has worked in the past so I know it’s not my Internet and my laptop is always on my desk and the lid isn’t closed all the way it’s closed partly but not all the way I even went in and looked at my settings. I made sure everybody had access to the libraries and everything so I don’t know what else to do
About 1 day ago, your server got a new “identity”.
Although you have shared the libraries of that “new server” with the accounts of your kids, it may be that they all still have the libraries of your old server pinned to their individual left side bars.
Have them reset the side bars of their own Plex clients, so they get populated with the libraries of your new server:

If you are using a laptop as a server, you can set the power properties for when the lid closes to “do nothing” and closing the lid will literally do nothing. Make sure hibernation and sleep are both turned off. I think you can tell the screen to go blank when closed (which you should do to conserve power and reduce heat).
It was mentioned to reset the home screen if you have changed your library name so it will delete the old name and use the new one in the sidebar.
Also check your settings using the wrench icon. Go to “remote” and it will tell you if your server is accessible to the world. Sometimes they need a little love to get back online (click the “verify” button and/or reboot your router). If you use port forwarding, be sure that is set up correctly in your router and the plex settings in this “remote” tab match what you set up in your router for the forwarded port.
Thanks everyone for your help I think we got it working.
