I’ve used Plex for a number of years, but in the last 6 months or so I’ve been having a problem.
When I delete files from my HDD, they don’t always delete from PLEX. More confusingly, sometimes if I manually remove them from PLEX, they show up again (even though they don’t exist anymore).
Adding content is not a problem, this works great and fully automatically like it has always done.
Scan the library if Plex does not do so automatically.
Then empty the trash and clean bundles. Optimize the database if you’ve not done so recently and/or it is not scheduled (Plex Web → Server Settings → Scheduled Tasks).
Possibly moved somewhere Plex still sees the movie or you’ve multiple copies/versions?
Look at the Get Info for the media. It will show you the path the file.
If all else fails, check your log files for database issues. Pull the ZIP file and look in PlexMediaServer.log (and .1… .5). Your system should be set for debug, not verbose, logs. See support articles below.
If corrupted, you’ll see entries like this: <date> <time> ERROR - SQLITE3:0x7c71ea17, 11, database corruption at line 85694 of [bf8c1b2b7a]
Thank you for the helpful detailed response. Unfortunately, after doing the first part (trash, bundles, optimize), I am still suffering the same problem.
In regards to your second question. The files have definitely been deleted. When it shows up again in PLEX, it is listed as ‘unavailable’ (and won’t play). That’s what confuses me the most, why does it come back?
I will now the PlexMediaServer Log, hopefully that will fix it.
Unfortunately I do not have PLEX reading the root of my drives.
My files are stored on a separate HDD (internal) and also, they are in a folder in the root of that drive (PLEX points directly to the folder, not the drive).
Yes, empty trash automatically after ever scan is ticked, and I believe I only have the 1 folder for my library (I checked this in Manage Library>edit…is this the correct place to check?
I’m also experiencing the same issue. This issue has started with the release 1.18 (or higher). I observed the issue with the music library, but i did not try with others.
If you downgrade to release to 1.17.x, the next scan would fix the issue, but this is not what we are looking for.
I just upgraded to Version 1.21.0.3711 with success, and i removed one folder associated with the music content library, then I’m running a full scan right now…
I’m the op of this thread and I have to say that the issue fixed itself following an update. Nothing I did fixed it. But come one update (not sure which), it all started working. For now at least.
When you edit the affected library(s),
go to the “Add Folders” tab
inspect the folder paths which are listed there.
Is there any one of those paths either
no longer existent
inaccessible
completely empty
?
If so, then the failure to remove those items is to be expected.
@OttoKerner@sa2000 Only one path is assigned to that library. The missing path reported by @trumpy81 has no relationship with the current issue, it was just good to know since it was related to an obsolete library no longer used.
In my case, we need to put the emphasis on the music library… Again, this issue cannot be replicated prior release 1.18.0.
To answer well your question, the path is accessible, and there are a lot of content.
Issue: If I remove files related to the music library, then they won’t be removed from the content library following a full scan.
