Library not found

I deleted the IOS app because old servers were still displayed. Redownloaded last week and was stuck on a page to choose libraries but none were listed. Redownloaded again today and I can now navigate the app but it still shows no libraries.

I have a dell enterprise server with a plex community script lxc, accessing a shared folder from a qnap NAS. The web app works fine in a browser and my shield pro works (never deleted and reinstalled that app)

I also noticed that I updated my profile in the new app and changed my username, but this forum is displaying my old username. Something is not linked

I honestly wish the forum username was disconnected from my Plex server username. In my opinion they shouldn’t be tied together at all for security reasons.

You can change your forum username any time you want.

The only thing linked is the email

Just below where I cut off is my email which ties everything together.

Update..the plex web app browser has picked up the new username. Had to manually change in this forum thanks for the tip. Still can’t see library in iOS app

I’m sorry,

I forgot the master account one

This should get everything for you.

I changed my forum username a few weeks ago. But now when logging into my server I get initials of LL (instead of what it previously used to be)?

This opens the web app in safari which correctly has my server. Just like the desktop browser. But the iOS app does not. I’ll try deleting the iOS app and logging in again.

No libraries found

@NASAfam

Looking at Plex.tv for this email address (this account),

I see one deleted and one active server (name starts with ā€œAā€)
That server is on Ubuntu and has 3 library sections defined.

I’m concerned you might have a firewall or LAN issue with iOS not being able to see / talk to the server locally on its own. (it should)

The alternative way to diagnose this is to ā€˜Publish’ (push) your Library sections to Plex.tv

You can do this either of two ways.

  1. Enable Remote Access once
    -or-
  2. Manually set the preference (Preferences.xml)
( I’ll give you the exact steps if you wish .. it’s just a XML Preference value )

What’s your preference

All of that description is accurate.

Incredible. I have never been able to enable remote access with the orbi router. When I enable in plex it tells me it’s available for 4 seconds then goes back to not available.

However doing that populated my iOS app even though it went back to not available.

Outstanding thank you for the support.

Given you have failing Remote Access, ( common )

The next questions to ask:

  1. Do you have multiple routers (at least one – which is the most common) behind the ISP-provided modem/router ?

  2. Does your Linux computer have an active firewall (software - build in) running?

Yes, I have an orbi router hardwired to an ATT Uverse 1gb fiber modem, and 2 orbi satellites. The dell enterprise server is hardwired to a switch which is hardwired to the main orbi. The server is proxmox with a plex lxc. I chose all default settings with the PMS lxc from community scripts. I did not add any additional firewalls other than what is default in hardware or the lxc.

You therefore have two routers. That’s a problem if you want Remote Access.

For automatic remote access (self configured) to work, there can be only one.
If there are two or more than manual intervention is required.

This is because PMS looks at the WAN IP and tries to configure it.
It can’t see the intermediate router.
It’s this router which is blocking the remote access.

In my configuration.

  1. ISP modem/router — In MODEM-only mode
  2. My router creates and manages my entire 192.168.0.x LAN
  3. PMS and all my devices (including WiFi) live on the 192.168.0.x LAN
    – My WiFi is in AP mode (no routing)

A lot of WiFi devices have built in router capabilities.
Unless you want to isolate wifi from LAN (makes using your server more difficult), you want the WiFi device to be an AP (Access Point) which does nothing more than convert ethernet - WiFi. No routing services needed.

Am I making sense?

Thanks you for all of this additional information!
I am not as advanced, but it sounds like you are saying
ATT=modem
Orbi=LAN
I don’t need both and can either:
Set ATT to modem only
Remove ATT altogether and connect the main line directly to the Orbi.

I will work on this weekend! It seems I am needing to do this anyway because every time I open the new IOS app it is blank and I have to go back in and enable remote access (for the few seconds it lasts) to populate the IOS app.

I truly appreciate the advice!

You get the gist. Though for many setups you won’t be able to completely remove the ISP modem (ATT). It’s often needed for Fiber/ONT, PPPoE, DOCSIS, etc. Doesn’t matter if you don’t know what those are, basically most ISPs don’t give ā€œraw internetā€ to your house. Their modem usually needs to authenticate, convert, or adapt the signal first.

Though almost every ISP modem will have a bridge mode/modem-only mode that allows you to completely disable all routing, and let it just do that aformentioned logistical stuff. This way you won’t have these two nested networks (double NAT) which makes it hard to do some things that require direct access to the public internet, like Plex Remote Access.

Instead, you could put your main Orbi router into ā€œAP Modeā€ which will disable its router functionality, and have it only deal with WiFi and meshing as an access point. Though ISPs usually give you bottom-tier hardware, and you’re better off doing the routing on your 3rd party device (Orbi).

Wow really appreciate you thanks. I’ll take a peek.
It’s funny I just tested the new app away from home. The library tab doesn’t populate but believe it or not the home tab is populating with continue watching and recently added. I can actually play those away from home…even though Plex web in browser states not available outside network with the button enabled, and it shows the link broken between garnet and public IP but fine between public IP and private IP.
