Can someone please confirm what the proper procedure is for re-arranging my folder structure?
I have several folders all part of the same library. I need to move many of the shows from one folder to the other. I have “Empty Trash Automatically” disabled. I thought the procedure was
Move files from one location to the other
Scan the library
Once the scan completes empty the trash
This procedure is working but these shows are coming up in the recently added list and Plex is rescanning them for credits/intros and stuff. Is there a way to prevent that from happening? I have a lot to move and if it needs to rescan all these files it will be weeks
If it matters this is on a windows server OS with the files stored on a Synology NAS volume
With a little bit of planning, you can avoid moving around content.
If you want to introduce a new storage strategy (e.g. different folder organization and separation of content on the storage level) think about leaving existing items as they are and only put new files into the new hierarchy. A Plex library can be connected to several storage locations, so that you can keep existing items and have newly added items in an alternative storage location.
IP adresses (of a NAS) can be manually defined, so that a new unit can directly replace an older, decommisioned/defective NAS.
The names of file shares and host names in the network can also be (usually) adapted, so that a replacement NAS can be made to look to the Plex server exactly as the old one did.
So basically I am doing it “right” and this is just going to happen if I move things. Thanks for the database article - that will help and in this case actually work better for me
