Library shows no content after server update

Server Version#: Latest
Player Version#: Various

After the latest server update (it was working previously) my “Shows” library went offline when viewed on certain devices (namely Roku TVs and SHIELD) When I load the “Shows” library on my own SHIELD it says (something like) “The host has yet to add content to this library”. When viewed on a browser using the web-app, I can see all the content in this library.

If I search for content that is filed in ‘Shows’, the search results reveal them, but they are just not in the ‘Shows’ Heading.

Any insight would be appreciated!

Thanks
Steve

Got the same issue, really annoying. Gonna check if there’s a new update.

Console shows this error when trying to load the suggested tab for me:

904-904-7fdff41d01777c4b0fb3-plex-4.56.4.17022-adbef9a.js:2 {
“message”: “Request failed with status code 500”,
“name”: “Error”,
“stack”: "Error: Request failed with status code 500

Please let me know if you come up with any solutions.
There have been 2 server updates since and the issue is still occurring.
I ensured that my devices also have the latest version of plex running so that is not the issue.
The error message says “The owner has not added any content to this library”

Need some more information please.

  1. PMS host ? Ubuntu? Debian? Redhat/Centos? Fedora ?
  2. Would it be possible to obtain the DEBUG log files ZIP which contains these messages?

It’s not possible to diagnose these type errors in isolation (snippets)

I checked my logs and it showed a lot of database errors.
So rebuilding database solved the issue.

How do I rebuild the database? I dont readily see the option (QNAP NAS)

Thanks. Just confirming… for a QNAP install I follow the Linux instructions, yes?

With exception of the path names, yes it’s the same procedures.

Before trying to rebuild, have you used the backup copies and confirmed they are also damaged ?

To make checking / trying easier, the “PlexData” share mechanism is available to you.

  1. Create a shared folder named PlexData anywhere you like it
  2. Attempt to start Plex (the magic occurs when PMS starts — scripting)
  3. Open File Station
  4. PlexData → Plex Media Server
  5. You are now looking at the actual installation (what’s normally hidden under the App Center “.qpkg” directory structure)
  6. You can use FileStation to perform renaming / downloading / etc as needed.

Ref: PlexData share for QNAP systems

A few tidbits before I proceed to break this further…
On the web app (app.plex.tv/) all is happy and gay with all Libraries showing perfectly just as before the upgrade – this is when I’m logged in as the Admin user.
When logged in as a Managed User (also on the web app) I get “Shows is empty” when loading the Shows library.

When on my Nvidia Shield, (no matter the User I’m logged in as) the Shows directory appears empty.

In all instances when the Shows Library appears empty, I can search for content that is filed in the Shows dir and play it.

Can you do the following for me so I can follow along?

  1. Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced
  2. Make certain DEBUG logging is enabled and VERBOSE logging is disabled.
  3. Click SAVE if you change either.
  4. Now, acesss one of your library sections as the admin user
  5. Next, access it as a managed user with the problem
  6. Next, access it from the Nvidia Shield app.
  7. Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs
  8. Attach the ZIP file it gives you here for me to read through and follow the events.

Thanks. Attached.
Btw, I did the same pattern on the Shield: Admin> Shows then Managed User > Shows.

Good day-- Please post a response to my attached .zip when you are able.

@Colors-Studios

Steve,
Thank you for posting again. For some reason, I wasn’t notified (server does that some times).

In looking at your logs, I don’t see any errors jump out at me.

I do see where “The Curch” S01E01 was played.

I also notice, you have an i7-6700 which is capable of HW transcoding but it’s not enabled. (Settings - Server - Transcoding - Enable Hardware Acceleration).

What more can you tell me about what’s missing?

Is it just the Shield when it’s looking at the QNAP ?

Where exactly do I find that menu?
I typically access the settings by going to plex.tv > launch > dashboard,
In that menu (under settings > Transcoder) “Use hardware acceleration when available” is checked.

As far as what’s missing, I have a library called “shows” where I have several TV series saved. Since the upgrade, when loading that library I get a message that says “No Content Available for this Library. This library is currently empty. The server owner still needs to add media or remove any filters that may prevent it from appearing here.”
I get this message on my Shield no matter if I’m logged in as myself or another managed user.
I cannot tell you if this is true of our other devices, but I assume it is, because when looking at the dashboard I don’t see any usage from the Shows library.
As I mentioned, I can use the search function to locate content that is filed in the Shows dir and play it.
The shows directory does show fine when using the web app.
As I mentioned, the Shows library was fine before the upgrade, and there were not changes to the library. (besides the upgrade)

Thanks for your help!

Ok.

Get into it as the admin (master account). Don’t be a managed or non-owner user.

Hover over the library section
Expose the ellipsis and click it
See the popup - Manage Server
Slide right → EDIT

Now you have the same controls you had when you created the library section.

Click “Folders”.

Make sure the folders listed there point to where the media is.

Let me know if you have difficulties.

I’m at https://app.plex.tv (as the Master Account.) I see Libraries, but nothing happens when I hover on it.
When I click Libraries… and hover over Shows… I see “Edit Library”
I did ensure it’s pointing to the correct dir.

When I click on Shows I see everything! (https://app.plex.tv) – even the new content I added!

Subsequently, when I do the same on Shield. I see nothing. (No content…)

@Colors-Studios

Since the shield is a server as well as a client, which side of the Shield is having the problem?

It sounds like you’re talking about the shield server can’t see the media. Correct?

The Plex Media Server is on the Qnap. The Shield is the client.

@Colors-Studios

How much of an inconvenience would it be to uninstall the Shield app and reinstall it?

I do it all the time (but that’s also my job) and it clears all evils.

Doing this will expose any duplication of server entries you might have (Settings - Authorized Devices - Server (dropdown) as seen in the Plex/Web app)
