Limit Concurrent Streams Per Account

I would also like this feature for the same reason as the original user. How do I vote to have this feature invoked?

Rob

Note - there’s an existing discussion to about limiting stream speeds server-side here: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/80857/popular-server-side-speed-limits-caps-for-shared-subscribed-users/p1

We should consolidate our votes about limiting stream bandwidth to avoid duplication.

    1. More management for Plex server owners over their users.

Per User Limit would be fantastic, and the limit on # of Remote Users at any given time. With the new StreamBrain i’ve seen some issues where people get errors that not enough bandwidth is available, even though there are no streams happening. Happened to me on my local network as well, so I rebooted my server and it fixed the issue. It would be great to have a way of limiting ā€œFriendsā€ to 1 stream with their user name at a time, while the local ā€œUsersā€ get as many as possible, and then also put a cap on # of remote sessions, with a valid Splash Screen that says, like someone posted before, ā€œNumber of Remote Sessions Reached, try again laterā€.

Even better would be if you could just limit the number of concurrent streams period.  Although, by user would be nice as well.

I’m in the same boat as you.  Almost exactly actually. 5Mbps up, most of my stuff is approx 2Mbps, share with friends, etc.

I had a guy sharing his account with people.  I stopped sharing it with him.  He called and said he couldn’t get on.  I told him I can see that he’s sharing his account, I told him the IP addresses that were used to access what movies and from which devices (I use plexwatch and plexwatch/web to monitor usage).  I told him that I’d only share it with him again if he changes his myplex password and doesn’t share it again.  And that if I saw anything that made it obvious he was sharing his acocunt again I’d just remove his access for good.  It hasn’t been an issue since.

Recently though, I got a low-end dedicated server through a hosting company.  I now have 200Mbps upload speeds, and the people I share with chip in to cover the montly rental fee.

Where did you get your server through to attain those speeds??

+1 - wish this feature was available

The point of limiting the number of logins is to not have to monitor like that. If people know they only have one concurrent login, they will be less likely to share their account.

Ya, that’s one way… The other is to remove your family or friend from your server. I have had to do this a few times BUT I will NOT accept this from my members. Plex is free. Don’t be lazy. Goto the site and make an account.

+1 for this feature

Your vote will count when you like the first post.

+1 This is a MUCH needed feature.

Will this feature ever be added?

Have any devs looked at the possibility?

This feature really needs to be implemented, the streaming brain is a good start, but if the same user is using all the transcode spots, then it doesn’t help all that much…

Does anyone have any way of limiting the amount of streams per user, using 3rd party apps or scripts?

Are devs reading this thread?
Sorry but no answers makes me wonder…

Most of the users who wrote here are plex pass members…

Thanks

ALL of the users that wrote here were Pass Users when they posted. This forum is Pass only.

And yeah, at least one employee has read this thread, just so he can keep up with the votes it has. Whether anyone does anything with this data is open to debate, though.

if ($concurrent_user_stream > 1) {
cancel stream request;
} else {
play stream;
}

How hard can it be to implement this with a small input field in the user settings so you can change the max amount of concurrent streams per user? -_______-

This has been requested 3 years ago and it should problaby take less then a few hours to implement it on the server side. Shows how much influence the feature request voting has.

Yea, this is by far one of the most frustrating, yet somewhat simple problems that is so weird to not have been addressed by now, 3 years later.

I’d like to see it as well.

I share my plex pass with family members, however I have master profile pinned and each member in the family has their own guest profile pinned. If they share with a friend the main plex pass account, then the only way I can notice is with third party tools that can tell me the IP addresses accessing profiles. (and if I see streams from a guest profile with multi ip’s then I know one of their friends is using their profile and I contact them to say to tell their friends not to be using it.)

This usually occurs when they go over to a friends place and put on a show to watch together or music. Then they leave the friends house and forget to signout of plex.

Would be nice to have concurrent streams per profile setting and also a remote logoff setting where you can remotely kick a user session.

Basically that. I have a lot of friends who (maybe not even on purpose) share their account. I don’t even really mind if they do it, as long as that user doesn’t fill up my Plex server with multiple streams. If streams per user could be limited, then the users will only take it on themselves if they share their account.

this request gets my vote too, +1

LOL Guys

I totally agree this should be implemented.

However… It also makes too much sense for a media server like Plex.
Like many other meaningful and common sense features that make sense for the Plex Core product/functionality… IT WILL NEVER GET ADDED!!!

Cripes… This request is also on it’s 3rd anniversary.

Plex is too busy doing crap nobody asks for. Although they should be protecting and working on their core product by fixing bugs and making Plex the premium goto Media Server THEN develop all these other features that are frosting on the cake.

I just wonder who the hell Plex listens to before they have a release content meeting for future releases.

Looks like a bytehead free for all over at Plex.

After 3 years they still havent implemented this ā€œlimit # of concurrent streamsā€ for us. I couldn’t tell you how many people I’ve preached how great Plex is too, but this is bullshit.
