Server Version#: 1.16.1.1273
Player Version#: 3.104.1
I have ~6Mbps uplink, but I share my library with my immediate family, and a few select friends. I have the “limit remote stream bitrate” set to 3Mbps 720p. At this, I would expect that any remote stream would use ~half of my uplink, allowing me to still use the rest.
However, I’ve noticed lately when I’m playing Xbox online, my game gets really laggy and rubberbands a lot. If I pull up my Plex dashboard, sure enough, someone’s streaming, and the peaks are using up the full 6Mbps. If I kill the server entirely (cruel, I know), everything is smooth on my game.
This leads me to believe that the server setting is not respecting the limit that I set. I realize that a video stream isn’t a constant stream, that it breaks up the pieces and sends them over in bits - hence the spikes in the blue line on my dashboard. However, given my setting, those spikes should NEVER exceed 3Mbps, correct? Then why is it exceeding them?
