Linking to Media Files after System Crash

My system crashed after a Windows update. Since I was unable to recover I had to do a clean install - windows, Plex, etc. The media files on the separate drives are still there.

Now that my PC is now up and running I’ve reinstalled Plex Server but can’t link to the media files on the other drives. I have a Plex Pass account. Help!!

Soooo… where exactly are you getting stuck?
You have re-created your libraries and get to the point where you add / assign a folder for that library? Is that drive not accessible / visible from within that dialog?

The libraries are on separate drives - same as before the crash. The drives aren’t visible.

You said so in your first post.
Are those internal drives or drives connected via USB that have their own drive letter – or network shares?

Internal drives - 2 sata3 3 TB drives. Program files are on 120G SSD drive

Shouldn’t I just be able to do the fresh install of Plex server and map to the files?

Certainly. Did you fully nuke that SSD and the previous PMS setup in the process or could there still be some of your old configuration in place?

I’m still not 100% clear on where you get stuck…

  1. you click on Add Folder in the library creation process
  2. this will show the folder-selection dialog
  3. on the left side you should see your home folder and be able to access the drive letters on that system

Do you get through all of that and it’s just the drive letters not showing?
Could you share a screenshot of what you get to see in step 3?

I had to nuke the SSd and start from scratch
When I installed Plex server I logged into my account and it told me I already had an account.

I don’t see anywhere to add folder. Do I need to cancel my account and start a new one?

Sounds like you got mixed up with the login vs. sign-up.
Please try the following:

  1. Start the Plex Media Server app
  2. Open a browser on the machine that runs the PMS
  3. Navigate to http://127.0.0.1:32400/web or http://localhost:32400/web to access the bundled version of Plex Web – this is necessary to complete the installation of your new Plex Media Server
    • when you get to the part of claiming your server… make sure to login with your existing account and not to sign-up a new one :wink:

During the installation you’ll be provided with an option to name your server and to create your initial libraries (you can add more later) – and most importantly to link the new server to your Plex account.
