Lip sync on SHIELD Pro 2019

If you could please. At the moment watching tv is very distracting. There is several seconds of lip sync misalignment.

I have this issue except it’s with all videos. No matter how much the shield is adjust it doesn’t fix it.

That being said my soundbar has adjustment as well and I am able to put that at one notch below full a/v sync and fix the sync problem. Every once in a while I still need to restart the shield as it will get out of whack again but fixes it for a while.

Sad that the best player out there has the most issues :pensive:

In which version? As I mentioned previously, this should be resolved in our v7.31 beta

@DaveBinM - again many thanks for responding on the thread. I don’t suppose there is any chance you would be willing to share a “layman” explanation of what the suspected issue is?

The fact that the Plex player can introduce lip sync problems, when other apps on the same device do not, to be honest I found quite disconcerting. Previously, I’ve always found lip sync issues end up being attributed to the device itself.

It would be re-assuring (atleast for me) to have some understanding of what went wrong.

With AV sync, it can be just as much to do with the app as the device. I don’t know all the ins and outs (as it wasn’t a bit I directly worked on), but my understanding is it was to do with some changes we made to Refresh Rate Switching (RRS) in the new player, that were a little different to the old player, and were much quicker. However, some of these changes resulted in AV being out of sync, or pausing on the first frame, so we had to make some fixes to resolve this issue.

@DaveBinM

Hi Dave,

I received the android beta invite email, but I am unable to access or register my account as beta. It keeps saying it’s not available for the account. I double checked that I am signed in with the right account. Is there a checkbox the beta team need to press to allow access that they might have forgot or is there some lag in the beta enable link?

The beta invite is based on your Google account, not Plex account. If you are signed into the wrong Google Play Store account, it won’t show up. Feel free to DM me to confirm the details

@DaveBinM

I have upgraded to the beta (I believe - plex Verizon below) and I still see the same lip sync issue.

2019 Shield TV Pro and having sync issues with Plex as well. Playing MKV files at the moment primarily and see the problem constantly (the audio is behind the video) by enough ms to notice. When I play the same files on PC, no problem at all. The Shield itself is currently sitting on 0ms audio sync delay.

I can confirm that. However, it seems to have gotten better. I will continue to test and observe and report afterwards.

Can you provide a sample file or some logs, please?

@DaveBinM I see it with live TV. Same as before. Start off with synced then quickly deteriorates to several seconds.

Could you please give me a guide in what I can provide?

Can confirm the same behavior with certain files only.

Plex would also benefit from the ability to set a manual offset =/- in ms from the settings page on android, that would at least make this easier to deal with.

Just the Android logs for now

Server Version : 1.19.1.2645
Player Version : 7.31.0.16802
I am using the “new player”

I have also with some videos big lip sync problems.
player is direct playing and passthrough for audio
no lip sync problems on the same video and same device using plex for Kodi addon

here are my logs.
Plex-player-shieldtv-16-04-2020.log (85.3 KB)

Same exact problem here. Lip sync issues galore. tested on five different Nvidia Shields (2017-2019)

plex client version 7.31.0.16802

Would be nice if Plex actually did some decent QA on the clients before releasing them. Maybe spend more time doing that than adding useless features that no one asked for or wants like Tidal and the “free movies”. Paying a monthly fee for a product that at times, feels like the developers really take their customers for granted.

I am also seeing lip sync problems on Shield 2019 Pro connected via Sony STR-DN1080 AVR to Sony KD-75ZD9 TV and HDMI AutoLipSync enabled on the AVR. All audio is player as passthrough via HDMI.

The sync issues only happen with the new player, sometimes from the start of playback, sometimes after seeking and usually seeking back restores sync.

I also noticed that the AV sync setting in the advanced audio settings only affects some passthrough audio codecs, while it is ignored for others (don’t remember which).

Most off the tine audio sync is off just enough to be irritating, but sometimes it gets heavily out of sync, like a second or so.

I really wish there was a way to make Plex stick to the old player instead of defaulting back to the new player on each update, since audio sync isn’t the only bug (eg. playback freezing on high bitrate streams or at the start of streams, unrelated to network throughput or device capabilities).

Same problem here. Shield 2019 pro, STR-DN1080 AVR, latest versions. Passthrough via HDMI. Receiver doesn’t recognize the stream and lip sync issues, severity of which varies with files/codec. Annoying!

I’m seeing this as well. Shield 2019. Plex 7.31.0.16802 (00d577ff).

New/Enhanced Player.

Just wondering whether there is any update here?
