I also have this problem on 2017 Shield, have not checked 2019 Shield yet. I’ve been using Plex for many years now. The number of video/audio playback issues that have occurred during this timeframe is astounding. I’ve bounced around from one hardware platform to another over the years in pursuit of the perfect playback experience, I’ve basically tried them all at this point. Rarely does a version of the Plex app not have some noticeable issue with audio sync, judder, or file incompatibility due to constant changes of the Plex app. The fact that issues persist for months or even years is just plain unacceptable. The complete lack of response from Plex devs on issues is unfathomable. I cannot imagine a software company that has no official support channel, and ignores their paying customers repeated requests for help.
Stop introducing new features all the time AND FIX YOUR APP! And then leave it alone! Or introduce a stable release channel for those of us that actually want to use the app, rather than pay to beta test your product for you.
Bumping for awareness. I have been noticing the same issue with my 2017 Shield. Tried all kinds of things to get this issue to go away with no luck. There is clearly something that is causing this to happen and needs to be looked at. This is a big enough issue that it removes the user from the viewing experience completely.
As a software engineer myself, I don’t see how devs can solve this problem with just complaints in a forum thread.
Server setup, client setup (version, hardware, OS, AV setup, screen), video file specs are all a determining factor in this. Without a way to reproduce, there’s no hope this will ever get fixed.
I myself posted here when I noticed some sync issues on one TV show I own. It turns out the issue lied in the multiplexing of the mkv files. And none of my other movies/shows are affected.
In order to assert whether files or setup were to blame, I bought the Spears & Munsil UHD HDR Benchmark disc and ripped it to my Plex server. And it shows A/V in perfect sync.
PM me and I can share this file with you. If you see A/V sync issues on this file, then something is wrong in Plex or your setup and we can investigate from there. If there ano A/V sync issues, then the issue might be in the video files you are playing. Maybe try to share a sample and I can try on my setup to see how it goes.
The Plex Android TV app is currently unusable for me. Now I’m only in Kodi with Plex Addon. Have 2017 and 2019 shields. The problem is right after the video starts and not just when you continue. However, I didn’t try it out anymore because I use Kodi as I said.
Unfortunately, plex devs have a lot of problems with the sound. Here is another example:
We’re testing some things internally at the moment that should help with this and potentially resolve it. I don’t have an ETA to share, but we’re actively working on this.
That’s great news @DaveBinM - thanks for the response! I’m sure lots will appreciate the acknowledgment of the issue.
May I ask if this is the same underlying issue that also causes lip sync problems on other platforms, eg Apple TV where I also see the issue? Ie will this eventually get fixed across all clients at the same time?
No, each client is independent in this regard. Sometimes there might be an underlying server issue for some issues, but if that was the case, it would be present on every client, in the same way.
I have lip sync problems with new Sheild TV. My live tv thru hdhomerun has this problem all the time. I have to skip back 10s about every 5mins to get back in sync. My MKV movies play fine. 90% of my live tv recordings play fine also. I have one tv show NBCs Manifest that does it on the recording also.
Hi Dave, I have found this thread after experiencing the drift. I have a 2017 shield pro.
Do you have any updates here? The issue is still present? Is there any way I could fix this?
