Lip sync on SHIELD Pro 2019

I love plex, but I too am have as subtle ‘lips moving before audio’ issue on only some files. It would be great if Plex for shield had an audio advance/delay setting like the old WD TV box did.

Hi @DaveBinM it’s great that this is getting fixed. Thanks so much again.

I notice there is still a terrible (and very similar) lip sync issue with the Apple TV client - atleast with 4K HDR files with Atmos audio. Do you have any advice on getting this acknowledged too? I believe I created a similar topic at the same time as this one but it didn’t gain the same traction.

Apologies also for off topic post (feel free to respond and delete)

I had what I think is this issue last night. Strangely I know I’ve watched this version of the movie before without issue, but can’t recall what Plex version I was running at that time. And I might of gone off the deep end last night when posting about it before searching. Sorry about that.

Server Version#: 1.19.3.2764
Player Version#: 8.0.1.17410

Can you give a bit more detail on the steps to what you did before this happened? Such as seeking, resuming, starting from beginning, etc.

It’s already been acknowledged in a separate thread, and one of our devs is investigating.

Hi - simply playing any video the audio is obviously out of sync. And it is not out of Sync using Infuse to play my Plex library. Great to see its being worked on. Thanks.

Well i’ve cancelled my Plex Pass. Until more people start voting with their wallets and stop paying for a broken product with terrible support, then things will not improve.

This was the first for the lip sync issue on the Shield for me. First time it happened I stopped it and started again and it got back in sync, but only for a short while. It happened again and I did the same thing however it went out of sync only seconds later.

Some things I did during my meltdown  was kill Plex, reboot Shield, reboot server. In the end I switched over to the 1080p version and it played fine till the end.

When the issue starts to appear the video jumps one or more times (actually looks like it’s dropping frames) and the audio sync drifts greatly. I mean it’s so off it might as well be dubbed!

I’m tempted to re-rip the 4K version and try again, but I know I’ve watched this title in the last few months and had no issue with it. And also since it’s random it might not happen at all next time.

Well, I was more interested in the steps immediately preceding the issue, not the meltdown per se :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey I’m just trying to keep it light. I know I can be a bit of an ass when I get frustrated.

Haha, we all have our moments
If you’re able to recall what happened immediately before the issue (or the time when it occurred), it would be much appreciated :plexheart:

Should be close to the end of the logs. I had rebooted the server last, let Plex find the server, and then tried again. It happened a few minutes after. Obviously had to turn on network logging to grab the file.

So there should be at least 2 events in the shield log towards the end.

Was the audio ahead or behind of the video, if you can remember?

Before I believe. It was so off it was really hard to tell. It’s not like the subtle lip sync issue on the ATV that’s difficult to see, but you know something is off. Hope that’s helpful.

I can’t do it tonight, but I can slot some time tomorrow to do a fresh cycle with minimal other stuff possibly confusing things. No telling how long it would be before happening though. Let me know.

I’ll forward on your logs to one of our engineering team

Thanks sir. I’ll try and recreate at some point. At least I really Like that particular movie so if I have to watch it again It isn’t the worst thing.

I hope to have clean logs for you shortly. I’m watching the movie that had the problem and waiting for issue to appear.

While waiting and before I forget, I had another bug happen that I’ve seen before and haven’t posted or searched about. After restarting the shield the first launch of Plex causes whatever I start to be fully transcoded when it should direct play. I have to exit Plex, kill it, start again and it’s back to normal. I know, completely off topic. Maybe this will jar my memory later and I’ll see if it’s known or not.

On to watching and waiting.

Well that took surprisingly shorter to appear than last time. Local time was about 5:01pm EST. Audio was extremely BEHIND video. Logs below.

Thanks, I’ve passed it along to one of our engineers

21 days since last update, any chance of letting us know what’s happening? My plex pass is cancelled until its fixed. Perhaps you could pull some engineers away from implementing things no one wants, to fix core problems with the app?
