Lip sync on SHIELD Pro 2019

Hi @DaveBinM

Please can we have an update on this?

For me the out-of-sync issue seems to occur only when the disc contains seamless branching. Just an observation.

I don’t have anything further to share at this time, I’m afraid

I have the same issues with audio sync after skipping foward. It happens after tapping th remote skip buttton, or after skipping intros and commercials. As mentioned by others, it also manifests as no audio at all in some instances, with occasions displaying an error box about audio format not supported. Shield TV Pro 2019.

Hi @DaveBinM

I notice there are a lot of people mentioning audio sync issues, but not many logs being provided.

I’ve noticed some random sync issues recently, which as far as I can tell only seem to affect high bitrate content. Would providing some logs help in troubleshooting?

Cheers

We sufficient information for now for our investigation, but thank you. We’re continuing to investigate and look into potential solutions.

That’s great. Please do let us know when you implement a fix so we can test and provide feedback.

Almost a whole YEAR since this was first reported.

I generally just use Kodi when I want to ensure I can watch something on my Shield (2019) now - I mean, what’s the point of wasting my time?!

Doesn’t help when the kids and the other half are moaning about it though. Along with myriad other issues with the Plex client on Shield TV.

Not good enough. As usual.

Yes, I have the same issue on some movies, disabling Audio Passthrough helped but now it forces audio and video to transcode from H265 to H264 for some reasons, making 4K Remux unwatchable because of buffering.
Both Kodi Addon and PKC doesn’t have this issue though.

I had the same issue pop up a few days ago.

I fixed my sync issues by going into the nvidia shield settings, display and sound, Advanced settings, Audio Video Sync.

There is a bouncy ball animation with a slider underneath it. I used the slider to change the milliseconds of sound delay until the timing was fixed. Took some trial and error but It’s been about a week now and I haven’t had sync issues. Not sure why it just all of a sudden started happening and it didn’t happen on all files.

Maybe the nvidia shield is taking over timing from the Plex stream? No idea. Anyway, if your movie night is being ruined, this will at least work in a pinch till it gets fixed by Plex.

I have the exact same issue, it’s incredibly frustrating.

Switched from Shield 2015 to “upgrade” but now have this issue.

Anytime I fast forward it’s a 50/50 chance of the audio becoming out of sync. I then have to rewind or gamble on FF again just to sync it back up. Is there any acknowledgement from plex on this issue or when it will be resolved?

@DaveBinM any news on this front? This is one of the few differentiating features of the shield (TrueHD pass through).

Similar to those above, Kodi works flawlessly in this regard.

Also curious about any updates. I routinely still have this problem with Plex and high bitrate content, whereas Kodi’s player does not have the issue. I would much rather use Plex than Kodi, but this is such a deal breaker.

@mbhockey I am not holding out hope on this, unfortunately.

It’s very disappointing, but I am not convinced this problem is of importance to the Plex team.

Any updates on this would be greatly appreciated!

This may not apply to everyone but I found that turning off video processing on my Denon 6500H amp resolved the issue. I subsequently was able to turn on the ability to overlay the denon menus, rather than any upscaling features, and it remains in sync.
To be clear the sync issue I had was not one of pure timing, it was a frequent but intermittent one where the sync would vary inexplicably

I recently bought a Shield TV Pro and I am finding a few videos having this issue.

I found that changing the playback from “Play original quality” to “Convert Automatically” helped to fix the audio sync issue but the video didn’t look good.

Then after seeing this thread I turned off audio passthrough and now it will play “Original Quality” and stays in sync.

My setup is just the Shield plugged in to the TV with a 1Gb Ethernet connection to my Plex server.

I only bought this because the Plex App on my Panasonic TV constantly crashed when playing back videos and now they don’t but some videos have the sync issue.

For fear of this being lost in the shuffle, has this been addressed, or at least being actively worked on? This kills the use case for a Shield (high bitrate content).

This is still being actively investigated, but I don’t have any further news at this time.

Thank you for the update! Do you need any additional logs, etc…? It’s just incredibly frustrating that you essentially can’t use fast forward while using plex on an nvidia shield.

Ohh always thought it was just me. Such an annoying bug.
